Tootoo is a dirty player, and does not bring what Drake brought at all.
Disagree.
Chelios was a dirtbag who used to cheap shot Yzerman, and on occasion goad him into fighting. He was traded here and became a fan favorite. Drake was a cheap shotter early in his career, and big time in St Louis, and yet when people talk about the 08 cup they always mention Drake's physical play. Tootoo will be fine, and a good addition to the very, very soft line-up we had last season.

Hopefully with a ring leader, so to speak, guys like Abdelkader and Ericsson will play with more edge.Agreed.

Peer pressure is a *****Hopefully with a ring leader, so to speak, guys like Abdelkader and Ericsson will play with more edge.
Wings need some Ryan Pulock in the 1st round, a goal scorer in the 2nd round and rounds 3-7 all guys 6'4 or bigger. Please sign Dekeyser to play with Smith. <--Dekeyser signed, Paired next year. Mark your calendars.
Tootoo needs a partner in crime that plays like him on the other side of Helm. Oh hey, we have Mitchell Callahan. Problem solved.
Cleary....

Many teams have spent up to the current cap now. When the CBA is resolved many of those teams will need to ditch cap space, and they will not want to lose guys for nothing, though they will not have the negotiating strength they have now when teams know they need to move money...So I guess my whole point is, I am comfortable with this team that it is a playoff team. When the cap issue is resolved I bet Holland can grab a decent D-Man to supplement the depth when it comes time for teams to move money.
This is an odd off-season, I will not judge until October starts. (Or Later if there is a delay)
If by "many" you mean 2, then you're correct. As of right now, there are 2 teams (Boston and Minneosta) within $800K of the projected cap for next season. Everyone else has at least $3M in available space. 23 teams have about $7M or more. Granted, that does not take into account Weber's offer sheet or any RFAs that still need to be signed. But my point is, most teams have at least *some* room.
Also, part of the NHL's proposal is a 22% rollback to all salaries. The cap in the initial proposal is 24% lower than it is today. So, with the exception of Boston, all teams would be OK if this were to pass. ***NOTE: I don't think the owners' proposal will, or even should, pass as it stands. But they'll get the players to lower their share of revenues, and they'll get a corresponding rollback in salaries to keep everything proportionate. I don't foresee teams having to dump players to get under the new cap.
I will agree, though, that it is still too early to pass final judgement on Holland's offseason. There are still trades and free agents available. But he's off to a bad start...

Add Maltby to the list of guys we loved here in Detroit even though the pissed off the rest of the league.

Definitely. Boarderline toughguys tend to play more boldly when they're not the only guy stirring the s*** out there.

Thanks TeeMan!

Tootoo isn't really a ringleader.
He's a good fighter, but he doesn't have a McGrattan or Belak to protect him in Detroit.

If he can use the trade market to pick up a top 4 d-man without overspending, ill be pretty happy too.

We've added Samuelsson, Tootoo, Brunner.
If Holland is content with our forward unit, he is a lousy bum.

Yeah but Tootoo can do something McGrattan and Belak can't-- play hockey at an NHL level.
And to be fair to Tootoo he didn't have Belak at all this year (RIP Wade
Last year Tootoo really didn't have the luxury of being a secondary tough guy most of the year.
Holland should be content with our forward situation as we got an energetic enforcer in Tootoo, a veteran winger in Sammy, and this guy to replace Hudler...
Hudler scored 25goals and had 50pts last season. It's pretty pie in the sky to expect Brunner to walk in as a rookie and replace that production. We should be happy if Brunner can crack 15g/30pts as a rookie and work upwards from there.

And to be fair to Tootoo he didn't have Belak at all this year (RIP Wade) and McGrattan only played 30 games for the Preds. Yip (2), Guastad (4) and McGrattan (7) were the only guys with more than one major penalty (Tootoo had 6). Of those guys only Yip played the full year with the Preds (Guastad was a deadline pick-up and McGrattan played 30 games after he was grabbed off waivers).

Brunner is a wild card at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see him score more than 50 points and also wouldn't be surprised to see him score less than 30.
Babcock is high on him which should work in his favor so as long as he does produce unlike Hudler he probably won't end up in the doghouse too often.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Nyquist surpass 50 if he is given the opportunity especially if he has worked to get stronger over the summer

Brunner is fastIs Brunner like Hudler in the fact he is bad defensively? Also Brunner hasn't even played an NHL game yet. Wild card indeed. Holland is content on our roster at the moment yes.

“I feel fine with how free agency has gone,” Holland said. “We went in with a game plan. We’re very happy with what happened on July 1.”
that seriously make me bang my head against the wall.
Oh and according to Holland, he only plans on adding another defenseman before the season, so don't hold your breath for Semin or Ryan.

Yeah, he hasn't been throwing nearly as many cheapshots lately. I think that is partly because McGrattan only played 30 games last year, so he didn't have a guy to stick up for his antics a lot of the time. In the past, Darcy Hordichuk protected him.Tootoo isn't really a ringleader.
He's a good fighter, but he doesn't have a McGrattan or Belak to protect him in Detroit.
He'll still raise hell, but not to the extent of throwing a ton of cheap shots.

Disappointing to say the least. Here's some highlights from a couple morning articles. Don't expect any new Red Wings anytime soon folks!

Yes Holland, you're right. It's not like we have any kind of scoring problem and desperately need a top 6 forward, despite the fact that we scored an average of 1.8 goals per game during the playoffs AND our own coach said we lost due to weakness in scoring potential for our 2nd and 3rd lines. Sure Holland, all is fine.
And yeah, saying Smith and Quincey will replace Lidstrom and Stuart, respectively, is in it's own level of idiocy alone.
Enjoy your summer folks.
