I would also love to see Mr. Holland try to work a trade for Volchenkov. He would be a perfect replacement for Stuart. Not too mention, that I think we could get both of them for reasonable prices.
Kronwall - Bouwmeester
Smith - Volchenkov
Ericsson - Quincey
That is not a bad set of defenseman at all.

and he's still good, don't get me wrong, but he's not the Kipper of old... their D was not the sole reason they didn't make the playoffs...If you talk to people in Calgary, they'll tell you that he just had an MVP worthy season this past year. Stats may not have been great, but without the way he played, Calgary would have been near the bottom of the standings.
All I have to say about Holland and our off-season:
and finally
Holland is a damn good GM. period.

He has never had any edge. He is only a top pairing defenseman because of his pay cheque. Calgary would love to move him and his contract.
i disagree. he has been playing the minutes of a top pairing guy for half a decade... and in florida, he was able to do it as a 1/2 ppg player and as a plus player post lockout. in calgary his numbers were down, but last year he still let the team in TOI. if you aren't a top pairing guy, you aren't on the ice that much.
i do agree he doesnt play with an edge. but the reason we need a defenseman is that we just lost a guy who was the definition of not playing with an edge. to me, thats why bouwmeester would be a decent fit. he plays that same style as lidstrom did. obviously no one does is as good as number 5 did, but why try to plug a round hole with a square peg? at least this way its a round peg, just not as bad ass of one!

not sure who you talk to, but he is pretty much universally hated on calgarypuck... they have been figuring out ways to trade him all summer...
I love Maltby, but to say he wasn't a ****** is a dis-service to his career of douchebaggery.

As would I, but he would cost more in a trade, so it's not an apples to apples comparison and doesn't really apply here... If Girardi is available and can be had for the same package as they'd give for Bo, you make that deal without thinking twice...I'd prefer Dirardi to Bouwmeester.
Agreed and I think he could realistically be had for something along the lines of Kindl, Emmerton (or Miller, or Mursak) and a 3rdI have always liked him and would take him if calgary was moving him out for a reasonable trade.
It wouldn't be a very hefty package, you might even be able to get him for less than that, as you'd be taking on cap hit as well, which is what Calgary wants to dump...

We need to trade for a top-pairing defenseman. Some people say Bouwmeester. I say Girardi. Maybe Girardi would cost more - but Nash probably would've cost us a lot more than Ryan would cost us.
Wait, why am I defending this?

Bouwmeester, despite his redonk cap hit, would fill the void of Lidstrom about as well as we'll find at this point. 6'4, elite skater, needs a change of scenery like it's going out of style. If not for Feaster as Calgary's GM, I think this could happen. As it stands, probably not going too.

you can't restructure contracts, not an optionI'd take him if he agrees to a massive paycut.

This is exactly what I'm thinking...As long as it didn't cost too much going the other way, I'd be all for it, just coming into his prime, he's been on horrible teams, and he'd thrive here, I'm convinced of it... Only 2 years on the contract too, so it wouldn't be too much to take on if it didn't work...
Many bash the guy for any reason they can find...Regardless of his salary - the Flames still play him as a top 2 Dman; they must see something in his game to warrant that amount of ice time.
Many also forget that Brad Stuart also failed to live up to expectations on 3 previous teams before joining the Red Wings...That wasn't such a bad trade by Holland now was it?

Lets not kid ourselves...Very few Dmen out there can play in Detroit's "puck possession" game; it's a demand that many Dmen find challenging to say the least. He can, and would, here... Florida, then Calgary... I think that's all that needs to be said...
He would thrive in the Wings system, and I would put money on it, that if he came here, he would have better numbers next year than Suter...
Bouwmeester has the skillset to play the style the Red Wings prefer - just that he's on a team in Calgary that prefers the simple/safer approach of using the boards/glass whenever pressured...JBo appears not too keen on that system.
