My father is having serious heart surgery on August 6.  They are giving him an LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device), the same thing they put in **** Cheney (no politics here, please).  I'm heading down on Sunday to be there for him and my mother.  Internet access will be intermittent as I'll be depending on Wi-Fi at the hotel and other public places.  He is a lifelong hockey fan (though of the Flyers as we are in PA, but he pulls for the Wings in the West), and the reason I got into hockey.

Any prayers and/or positive vibes that the LGW community can send out are sincerely appreciated.  Thanks.

I made it down to the hospital today to be there for him. He has been in since Friday. They have been pumping some meds into the right side of his heart since then, and his color is the best it's been in a couple of years. He is in great spirits. The surgery is at 7:30 AM. To those who have replied, and those who've read but not replied and are sending prayers and positive thoughts, thank you!

The surgeon just came into the waiting room. He said the surgery was as straightforward as it gets, and we can go see him in about a half hour. He thinks he should be home in about two weeks, though based on his relative condition he may be out in 10 days.

I just saw this...I'm glad surgery went well and I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

We saw him at 12:30 and he was sleeping, but his color is the best it's been in years. We are heading back over as soon as we finish eating. Thank you so much for the kindness everyone.

that's awesome, Scott! Enjoy your dinner!. I thought about your dad all day today.

A couple of years ago, my friend in Dallas (only 61 at the time) had emergency heart surgery - four blocked arteries. He was a walking time bomb! I dropped what I was doing and got to Dallas as quick as I could, less than 48 hours after the surgery. He was sitting up in bed, his color was great, his eyes all clear and bright again -- it was as if he got a new lease on life... which is exactly what he got! He looked 10 years younger, we really didn't notice how bad his color and energy were, before the surgery.

Hope your dad prospers as well, and this is his second chance at a long and healthy life.

Thanks Linda! I hope my own dad's rebound is similar, the story of your friend is inspiring. Dad is 70. I just got out of his room. His color is the best it's been in years. He's still intubated for the respirator, but he is doing most of the work himself. He is having trouble staying awake, and he is really sore, but things seem to be looking good.

I'm wiped out - we got to the hospital at about 5;30 AM and I only managed about 1 1/2 hrs of sleep last night. To everyone who's posted, PM'd, and/or sent good thoughts, thank you so much!

Thanks. . I've been here at the hospital most of the morning. They hope to extubate him soon, so he will be muh more comfortable after that.

He's still not ready to be extubated but his vital signs and other numbers are all looking good. His color is the best its been in years. Even though the breathing tube is in, he is doing a significant part of the work himself, and he started refusing pain meds a couple of hours ago.

Got back to Mom's house a while ago. They still haven't extubated him. His color and vitals are all good, but he just needs to build up more strength. We stayed at a hotel by the hospital until today, as it's an hour drive one way from here. We are just wiped out, I can only imagine how he is. Thanks for the prayers and good thoughts everyone, it has been helping and is deeply appreciated.

Got to the hospital about 15 minutes ago. He's sleeping but they finally extubated him this morning, which is a huge step in the right direction. They are also going to pull a bunch or other tubes out today it looks like.
