Helm speed with better hands. Could be a steal. Shootout at the end of the clip is one of the cooler ones I have ever seen.

"Athanasiou idolizes and models his game after two Russian stars, Pavel Bure and Pavel Datsyuk.  Shows speed like Bure and hands like Datsyuk."

I noticed in the transaction section of the news paper today that he signed with GR for a tryout but couldn't find anything online. Does anyone have any details about the 2013-14 expectations for where he'll play? From the looks of his statline this year he has started to put his speed to use.

I'm excited for this kid.

I haven't seen a full game of his, but you can't help but fall in love with the type of player his highlights portray him to be

Smooth as pasha, and I'd like to see him and helm in a race a few years down the road when helm has been 100% for a good amount of time, and A.A. has had some time with a professional conditioning/training system.

I feel like he will be a 3rd line offensive threat in the future. Although he is fast, scouts say that sometimes he can't control his speed (kind of like Luis Mendoza). He has a better offensive upside then Helm, but I believe Helm is better defensively.

Well if he listened to Coach Bombay his skating would improve. I can see Kenny collecting empty cans of juice as we speak!

If he learns some humility, and realizes how much work he has ahead of him(which is a big if) he could be a second line center.

He's only 18, so I expect him to be a bit cocky.

Hopefully his time with the red wings showed him a glimpse of what he needs, and what it means to be a red wing.

And if he can get on the red wings developmental game plan I expect more than third line out of him.

Once again that's a huge if.

It's pretty cool how we draft people late and the next year they kind of explode offensively. For example: Athanasiou and Nyquist. Those are just off the top of my head. I'm sure theres more ala Z and Pav probably. I'm too lazy to look it up. Anyways, I'm getting excited for this kid.

Funny some of you asked about physical growth. Yes the RW's still have him listed as 6-0/177 under the prospects thread. However, if you go to Barrie's team page, AA is listed as 6-2/200. So yes he has in fact grown and kept his speed, while improving his production. Next year we will find out if he can do it vs. pros.

finished 5th overall in the O in scoring and 2nd in goals. When was the last time the Wings had 2 ( Mantha) such out and out goalscorers coming thru and at the same time. These are big guys to, they wont have them both on the roster but what chance one of them makes the Wings next season.

Mantha has a shot, but unless we have world war one casualty rates again Andreas doesn't sniff call ups until the year following. Some over-ripening is coming his way, which can be a good thing ala nyquist..
