The Detroit Red Wings center suffered a fractured cheekbone after being hit with a deflected puck during an informal practice today at the Troy Sports Center.

Helm will learn on Saturday whether he needs surgery, after he sees a specialist, who will look at his X-rays.

I guess as long as he gets better it doesn't matter. He'll either be pretty or look like a hockey player.

My money on the board pledge:

$1 for each goal scored by a player after whom I have named a hamster.

well, helm is injured....time to start the season.

bettman was just waiting for this. he know our Achilles heel.

now he can set in motion who he wants to win the cup this year.

No surgery required, just need for the swelling to come down and the stitches to be removed, per Ansar Khan.

Wings' Helm won't need surgery for fractured cheekbone. Just stitches and swelling.shouldnt be out long.

Nope, since before the playoffs, he was injured leading into the playoffs and the first game back landed his wrist on a skate and severed tendons in his wrist. Get well soon Helmer, we miss you in Detroit and hope you will be ready to play when an agreement is signed! You are the soul of our team!
