That lineup sounds about right, but how far do you think this team could get with that roster?  

 

Couldn't get past the first round last year with Lidstrom.

I'd love to see a third line of Nyquist-Helm-Brunner. But that would also mean that both Bert and Sammy are in the top 6 which doesn't thrill me.

Gus and Pavel will let likely be together. Brunner and Zata will likely be together as well. I don't see where else to out Gus. What's your take?

That's what I'd do.  Unfortunately, we're still missing a top six forward, and a top four defenseman.  Kronwall will have to have a Paul Coffey '95 kind of year.

You wouldn't keep Brunner and Z together? Interesting.

 

I'd load up the top line.  Short season and we'll need Pavel and Hank to carry us.  Brunnstrom will need to help the third line score.  Sammy is useless unless he's on the top 6.  I still don't know why Holland signed him honestly.  

 

Of course, these lines will change after a few games.  Expect coaches to pull out all kinds of stops in a short season.

Makes sense GMR. I hadn't thought that this season will be a sprint instead of a marathon. And I agree, with the Brunner signing there was no need for Sammy.

I would keep Brunner and Z together to START the season. They have played together for a long while now and have been very good... no reason to change that. Start with this and see how it goes. With that said, these are the lines I want to see start the year.

 

Filpulla- Datsyuk- Bert

Franzen- Zetterberg- Brunner

Nyquist- Helm- Sammy

Miller- Abdelkator-Cleary/Tootoo

 

Kronwall- Smith

Quincy- White

Ericsson- Kindl (since Carlo is injured)

 

I think this would be the best balance. I NEVER want to see Franzen on the ice with Datsyuk because he frankly does not deserve it. Pavel never plays good with Franzen as he does with others and I really like the idea of Fil and Pavs together with a big guy like Bert.

I'd rather we never signed Sammy and gave Gus a real look, but it is what it is... I wouldn't want him toiling away on the bottom 6, or on the bench, I'd rather him get more quality minutes in GR and called up when there are injuries...

The top six is weak. Potential to be better depending on the development of Nyquist and production from Brunner. Like others, I have no clue where to put Samuelsson on this roster. He doesn't do anything worthy of playing in the bottom six. The forward group is deep; just severly lacking a goal-scoring winger.

This might be a minority opinion here, but I trust E more than White. Rather have Ericsson out there against an opponent's top line than White. White wasn't good without Lidstrom and stuggles to get the puck out of the zone because of his size. Ideally, Smith makes a huge leap and jumps into the top four taking some pressure off the uncertainty that comes from both Ericsson and Quincey logging more minutes. Defense is in deep trouble with injuries. There's no depth in this group at all.
