I think many people forget just how vital a piece Holmstrom was of the 1998 team. He ranked third overall in points for the team during the playoffs with 17, trailing only Fedorov with 20 and Yzerman with 24, and this came in addition to his invaluable contribution in screening the goalie. He was truly an unsung hero.

Holmstrom has always been integral, up until last year or so. Even as he aged, and with his lack of skating ability, he made things happen out there. He found a way to play the game that only he could do up until Ryan Smyth came along, and even then Holmstrom did it better.

I for one will miss the guy, all links with those '90s teams are now broken.

"Will you miss me when I'm gone, Mule?"

FIREHOUSE - "When I Look Into Your Eyes"

I see forever when I look in your eyes

You're all I've ever wanted

I always want you to be mine

Let's make a promise to the end of time

We'll always be together

And our love will never die

So here we are face to face and heart to heart

I want you to know we will never be apart

Now I believe that wishes can come true

'Cause when I see my whole world

I see only you

I was wrong about Holmstrom's production in the '98 playoffs; he had 19 points rather than 17, placing him only one point behind Fedorov.

I remember trying to replicate Homer's mid-air game 7 goal vs Colorado in an actual ice hockey game. My stick didn't graze s*** and I fell flat on my sack.

I will for sure miss how hysterical he is. He's got one liner's going left and right.

Luc Robataille convinced him to used a curved stick for one game. He used it, and almost got traded.

Ozzie would be talking about everything and nothing at the same time.

He's not allowed to use the vacuum or do laundry in his retirement.

The video coach would help alter video for Babcock to make it look like Homer was where he was supposed to be.

Gave thanks to Al Sobatka for being the best octopus swinger in the league.

Gave Paul Boyer a rib for never being able to get the glide on his skates that he wanted.

"..after winning cups in my first two years in '97 and '98 i'm like 'wow, this is easy'"

"Al Sobatka, best octopus flinger i know.. cooks amazing bar-b-ques. and i guess used to drive the zamboni sometimes."
