I'm going to go ahead and guess that Huskins will be paired with Smith. Babcock will break apart the horrible pairing of Smith and Quincey. Smith goes with Huskins, who is a more stay at home defensemen. Smith is the poise puck mover, Huskins should be back for him being mistake prone. Lashoff will probably pair with Kronner, and then White will run with Quincey. I like those pairings A LOT more than what we've been working with.

There was a time when it seemed like Holland was always 100 steps ahead of everyone, always looking way into the future. These days, he seems to work on a "day-to-day" basis.
Not complaining about this signing. It's just, I keep waiting for that ah-ha! moment...

I agree with this.

It's actually not as bad as it sounds.

I did see somewhere today that the Red Wings were still looking to trade for Franson, but I can't confirm that report.

Lashoff, for example, is 6'3 and 210-ish.

Listed as 210-ish. The Griffins' press release as of yesterday says he's 225 lbs.

I don't buy that. But this is all kinda moot. We know Holland likes 'em old, soft, and ineffective.

Yeah because Holland knew we would have these injuries. Who could he of signed realistically speaking that fans here wouldn't of found something to complain about...Lilja??...Lebda????? Looking through the thread earlier talking about us signing someone there was no one that was talked about that someone didn't have something bad to say about them. I can agree that I do lean more towards us trying out our younger guys in GR but oh well. 750k is not bad for a bottom line guy that has size.

Did you count yours in the sarcastic category as well? More commentary on how people should react is always refreshing.
As for Huskins, he's a body and the Red Wings need those desperately right now on defense. Unfortunately, a depth signing doesn't do much to help stabilize an already weak group as a whole. Still think Holland has to pursue a trade for a top-four defenseman sooner than later.
What do we have to trade for a top 4 defenseman?
We don't have enough depth at the top 6 forward position to make that kind of move. And if I was a GM, I wouldn't trade a top 4 defenseman for anything other than a top 6 forward. Certainly not at this stage in the season, at least.

He should have known when he signed Colaicovo, that the guy had a history of injuries.

Agreed, I can't speak for anyone else but from my end the sarcastic/negative comments generally stem from frustration about the overall state of the defensive corps. It's not that the Huskins is necessarily a bad signing at this point, but rather that one of the premier teams in the league have a defensive corps that is so thin that a few injuries necessitates a signing like this in the first place.

It's amazing how cynical some people are even admitting that they know nothing about him. I drafted lots of Ducks and Sharks in fantasy hockey over the years and got to watch a good chunk of his games and he's not fast, he's not super offensively skilled but he's very solid in his own end and won't make a ton of mistakes. And for a bottom pairing guy that's what we should be looking for right now. We've got enough offensive defensemen and you don't need more of them on the third pairing. Third pairing should just be able to go out for 15 minutes a night, stay at home and not make any mistakes. He's not lazy, either. He's pretty intense and works very hard.
But he's big and that means he has to hit for us or we hate him.

At least it's not another Ken Holland re-tread.....

Yeah because Holland knew we would have these injuries.
- We have terrible luck with injuries.
- We went into this season minus Nick Lidstrom and Brad Stuart (not to mention the also-recently-departed Brian Rafalski).
- GMs are supposed to be smart, intelligent. Part of that is being reasonable, rational, logical, objective. Part of that is having foresight. A lot of people here seem to want it both ways, such that Holland is incredible, knows everything, is always in the right - and yet, "Aw, man, how could he know we'd need extra help on the blue line? No one could've predicted we'd be in this hole!"
Please, don't give me this "don't criticize the GM" rubbish.
