Yeah I definitely see him going for more in a couple years, Montreal could have saved themselves some cash by signing him long term.
True - however Subban was looking for big $$$ for 5 plus years.
Habs GM Bergevin was in a tough spot; do you sign Subban for long term (mind you the guy only has 2 years of experience in the NHL), or as the GM you take advantage of the fact that Subban has no arbitration rights, and work out a short term deal to see how he developes?
IMHO - this deal is for the better for both sides.
