Nail Yakupov Goal Celebration.

Thank you.

I know the Wings are sucking it up, folks, but there are more interesting things around the league to talk about.

Agreed.

Like why didn't Hansen get even a penalty for this? No penalty, no discipline by the league for shoving a ref??

Burrows and Clowe got penalties on the play.

(I know it's totally off topic but I think we've beat the goal celebration thing to death)

Also... why did the announcers not mention that fact after they got 5 different looks at it? You know Ken and Mick would have said something.

Meh, the celebration doesn't bother me...at least is was a celebration of pure exitement, not someone like this:

although I get the "hot stick" referrence, it's a bit more over the top than Nail's....

Speaking of Oilers....not too bad so far this season and Justin Schultz has 5 points...that's only 2 points less than or entire D corps...it's early, but I think he will be a star and Edmonton will NOT get the #1 again...or 10.

So....how about what just happened in Pheonix? Nail got the OT winner, he batted it in again...Morris was going after him but threw blows at Whitney instead. He didn't have a crazy celebration, I didn't think, it was Doan-esque actually. I don't know, I am kind of starting to get that selfish vibe from him though. He's basking in this light. You could even tell his teammates didn't want to join in on it, Hall looked reluctant.

Yakupovsby will be concussion plagued soon due to his antics. Datsyuk doesnt get run cuz he doesnt showboat. He makes plenty of people look bad with his skill, but not with antics.

So players on opposing teams do not like when Yakupov scores on them and celebrates. Well, this is too bad. Pleasing Phoenix Coyotes is really not his job. The kid is 18. I think it will be rather sad if all the negative attention would make him to follow the "code". I hope he is strong enough to ignore all of it and do as he feels like.

All Yakupov did was put his arms in the air and wait for his teammates. Morris should get suspended and a good beat down from an Oiler goon the next time they play if he actually threw those punches at Whitney because of the goal and not because of something that transpired before it. Whitney obviously didn't want anything to do with a fight.

I'm surprised Ovechkin hasn't gotten Crosbied by some other team for his celebrations.

No celebration this time, and this goal was even bigger than the last one. Wonder if he got a talking to from the coaches after the last one? Good on him for celebrating with his teammates this time around, and what a start to this kid's career eh?

Yeah, I don't understand what the scuffle was about. I mean, outside of the fact that Derek Morris is an *******.

Difference is Ovechkin is an animal. Nobody wants a piece of him.

Well the guy is an amazing talent and I really liked his "new celebration" waiting for his teammates to come in and celebrate with them. Looks like he learned his lesson.

Morris is just an idiot, same baby like Smith can't stand both of them.

Wow. Can't believe some people are hating on a 19 year old kid who scored his first ever NHL goal. Let us all collectively kill his enthusiasm and turn him into a robot.

The goal in question in this thread was not his first goal. So that's no excuse.

There is a difference between enthusiasm (see: Shane Doan when he scores a goal) and over the top enthusiasm - as this celebration was. Granted, first NHL goal, special occasion, I understand... he gets a pass. I just don't want to see that kind of crap all the time in the NHL, like some other sports. I can't stand the show boating in the NBA and NFL, and I certainly don't want it in the NHL.

I agree with your point, but again I'd like to say that this this WAS NOT his first NHL goal. So that's not an excuse.

This is what his first goal, and celebration, looked like...

I think the goal celebration vs the Kings was a bit over the top, but when you think about the context for that goal (game tying goal 5 secs before the end of the game, your teams goal was just disallowed...), I think it was ok. As for the game against the Yotes - I really don't see why it's any kind of a deal. And yeah, Morris went after Whitney.

I would say that Yakupov, or any other player for that matter, should pay very little attention to reaction to their celebrations as long as there is something to celebate. He is on the ice to score goals not to figure out what fans (of other teams) can or cannot stand. My guess is that there are no many Oilers fans who have a problem with Yakupov.

If league sees this as an issue they should come up with a penalty for excessive celebration.

Agreed. I want Yakupov to be the next Datsyuk. Not the next Dennis Rodman.
