Ugh, keeps getting worse, although at least it is inflammation only, but I wish he could stay healthy, especially now we need Helmer

Considering he aggravated it enough to justify an MRI, finding out it's only inflammation is a bit of a gift.

I want him back as much as everyone here on LGW, but rushing him just opens a door for worse injury. Get well soon, Helm. I miss being able to post this...

Ya like I said I am glad it's inflammation only, it just sucks we will be another week without him. Obviously I don't want him to rush it, you can't mess with back problems, I just want him to be healthy soon so he can energize our team again :(

He is a major asset to this team so couldn't be more glad with this news that it isn't long term. Hope he takes as much time as needed so not to aggravate it further.

KHAAAAAAN!!!

Darren Helm said tests Monday (bone scan, CT scan) were negative. Will see back specialist in next day or two. can't figure out the issue

I suppose it's good news that there's no bone damage. Means the problem is a muscular issue, and not bone/skeletal. Another case of "It might be bad, but it could have been much worse", perhaps...

Turns out it's a small tear or strain in a ligament in his lower back, but that's actually a bit of good news (in that, it could have been much worse, but isn't).

Per Helene St. James/Free Press...

The Detroit Red Wings got some good news on center Darren Helm after his visit to a back specialist.
"They ruled out everything bad," general manager Ken Holland told the Free Press. "It's a small strain or tear in a lower back ligament. He got an injection, said he felt better right away."
Helm is now under orders to rest until Monday, at which point the Wings anticipate being able to start treatment and get Helm on a path to a return to the lineup.

However, there's still no timetable for his return. There's more in the story, so I encourage you to click the link and give it a read.

per khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

Helm said a specialist he saw in NY Monday discovered small tear in disc and said its 6-8 week injury from time it happened (Jan. 10)

Sami Salo is glass, Carlo Colaiacovo is glass, these are guys who can throw their back out wiping their butt in the morning. Helm has a serious back injury..big difference.
