I think it's the right decision to bring him against a stronger Team like the Blues. If he were in goal against the Flames you could bet that some would have blamed him also. Losing against a stronger team will ease that risk, although he might get few more or more dangerous shots on his goal. But lets hope he can stand this and I wish him all the luck he needs to suceed.
Mrazek To Start Tonight

I think in the back of Babcocks mind he isn't expecting to get much of a result tonight anyways even if he started Jimmy. Why not throw Mrazek in and see if it gives the team a little spark. I like the move. If he gets shelled against the best team in the conference it wont hurt his confidence as much as if he would have gotten shelled against a lower team.

Trial by fire. One of the best teams in the league, on the road. Time to watch the goalie of the future do what he does tonight: Win.

Won't use "the word" but who was the last rookie goaltender for DRW to allow no goals in his first game? Has there been one?

I was over exaggerating yes, but I was annoyed about looking around the boards and seeing every person whining about how we were losing because of howie. Howie is a great goalie, and people take it for granted, and blame everything on him and start Howard=Average threads, it's just annoying. He has by far been the most consistent player on the wings, and aside from Z has been the best

Good game by mrazek, not great but he made some timely saves. Now what they heck is going on with the stl goalies i wonder, first to worst.

Jimmy Howard won his first career game but it was an uphill climb for a few years after that. Lets see what happens when the defense isn't playing well and mrazek has to stop several good scoring chances.

One word: defense.
St. Louis's defense tonight was awful. Worst that I have seen in a couple years when they have played the wings.

Mrazek should be starting tomorrow against Edmonton! He's played against half of their roster all year in the AHL and it's the first half of a back to back

If McCollum never plays for the Wings again, his 12.00 GAA will supplant Dave Gagnon's 10.29 as highest in team history.

Yahoo Sports posts an editorial and asks: "Should Petr Mrazek Be the Starting Goalie for the Detroit Red Wings?" Yes, this is real, folks:
On Thursday, Feb. 9, Petr Mrazek shined in his first NHL start for the Detroit Red Wings as he collected a 5-1 win.
The Czech has been tearing it up this season in the AHL for the Grand Rapids Griffins. He won his first six starts in November and has a 17-6-1 record, 2.26 GAA and a .916 save percentage.
He was just as impressive against the Blues on Thursday. He made 26 saves against a team with the fifth-most goals scored per game.
I can't even fault him for the one goal he did allow. The puck squirted free from the slot area onto the stick of a wide-open Alex Pietrangelo. The defenseman buried it as Mrazek attempted a desperation save.
Couple Mrazek's performance with Jimmy Howard's mediocre play thus far and Mrazek seems like a lock for the starting goalie job, right?
