MOSCOW—A flaming meteorite plunged to earth in Russia's Ural Mountains Friday, smashing windows and injuring around 500 people.

Amateur videos broadcast on state television showed an object streaking across the sky around 9:20 a.m. local time before bursting into a fireball. Residents in the city of Chelyabinsk, the largest in the affected region, described a shock wave from the meteorite that blew in doors and smashed glass.

More videos here.  Watch the first "Cell phone" video, and listen with speakers/headphones.

In unrelated news, I'm flying to Russia to try and lift Mjolnir.  Wish me luck!

"And the best, I must confess, I have saved for the last, for the ruler of this Christmas land,

is a fearsome king with a deep mighty voice, least, that's what I've come to understand.

And I've also heard it told, that he's something to behold, like a lobster, huge and red!

When he sets out to slay with his rain gear on, carting bulging sacks with his big great arms, that is so I've heard it said.

And on a dark cold night, under full moon light, he flies into a fog like a vulture in the sky!

And they call him Sandy Claws!

Holy Moses, the things nightmares are made off. I'll bet the driver thought his/her time was up!

From now on, Patrick Roy will be rolled out to and from the Avs' bench like Hannibal Lecter. - BottleOfSmoke

I couldn't help but notice so many of the clips from this came from "dash cams", and had to wonder what the deal was.  Apparently I wasn't the only one with that thought, as I found out the explanation why...

And to get back on track (totally my fault), apparently there are reports of the same thing happening in Miami now too, without the mass injuries.  Crazy...
