interesting... so they always leave loopholes on purpose, or....?

 

I think it's just for this seasons case.  A lot of player were already playing in Europe due to the lockout so maybe that's why they made it for clubs owning the RFA's rights?  My guess anyways.

Colorado matching was the best-case scenario for the Flames, and it's still worse than not making the offer at all as they've now given a division rival one of their best players back. And people here complain about Kenny...

 

Yeah, that was the same argument against signing Weber to an offer sheet - the difference is that Weber was going to sign somewhere whether he was "prodded" to or not.  Calgary's offer sheet only had two reasonable outcomes, one of them neutral/marginally bad (Colorado matches and O'Reilly is back with them earlier than he would have been otherwise), one of them horribly bad (Calgary surrenders a 1st and a 3rd for a player they would certainly lose on waivers).

Nice analysis.  Tend to agree that it could have been an even bigger mess with appeals and whatnot.

 

Mike Johnson at 1:37-2:33 sums up the blunder very nicely.

Would be surprised if Feaster keeps his job.

 

I'm very much interested in seeing who else made an offer sheet to O'Reilly.

Not that that info. will ever be made public.

The Flames would have had to give up a first (probably a top 5 pick) and a 3rd.

O'Reilly isn't worth that kind of money. Last year was the only year, he has ever shown potential to produce. Even in jr. he has never managed a point per game in any season.
