Alexei Kovalev to be bought out but FLA

Dont think we would even think of taking him. Stats look like hes 3 injury filled seasons removed from being a consistent 50+ point player. Wonder who would take a stab at him.

It can't be a buy out per rules of the CBA. Those have to be done during the off season. He's probably hanging up the skates for good instead.

NHL's announcement from the change in the conditions to allow one to be used before the start of this season: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=650548

Could just be a straight up release, although Kovalev has to agree to it.

He's been a zero factor in Florida this season. Had a goal and two assists in the Panthers season opener, and has just 2 pts in his last 13 games. Has been a healthy scratch in 6 of Floridas last 11 games. Sounds like they were trying to move him either to another team or to the minors and Kovalev not surprisingly won't agree to it. In an interview at some point this season, he basically said he doesn't like the way the game is played in the NHL anymore.

See ya later Alexei.

tsn with confirmation:

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=417114

It appears as though Alex Kovalev's time with the Florida Panthers is over.

According to reports out of Florida, the 40-year-old winger did not make the trip with the team to Carolina to play the Hurricanes on Saturday. Reports state the Panthers are looking at other options and that an announcement is pending.

Kovalev has two goals and five points in 14 games with Florida this year. He has been a healthy scratch for the team's other six games this season.

Prior to his time with the Panthers, Kovalev hadn't played in the NHL since the 2010-11 season when he had 16 goals and 34 points splitting the season between Ottawa and Pittsburgh.

... you and me both brother.

I love it, Tootoo gets penalties for playing hockey, Datsyuk gets a penalty for falling, Crosby gets to do whatever he wants like a spoiled brat, people get "instigator" penalties for even talking about fighting... I heard they are trying to introduce a triple spin swan dive as well...

Yeah, I don't wanna derail the thread too much... but that call on Tootoo was ridiculous. Ken Daniels, though I love him, always seems to be coming to the defense of refs... I think he said something like "oh, he got his elbor/shoulder up".. or something. I didn't see that at all, looked clean.

I bet there are a lot of guys in the league that are unhappy with the way the game is called currently.

Why the baseless type comments? Where are the bad calls on Tootoo? Where is the video showing Datsyuk getting a penalty for falling down? What are the things Crosby is able to do?

Pittsburgh has had 85 power plays so far this year and have had to kill 85 penalties. By comparison, Detroit has had 90 power plays and and has had to kill 84 penalties. Does that really show anything? Not really, but it's better than simply spouting off comments.

I'd love to see the video of the call on Datsyuk though because I've seen several of the same calls this year.
