Last night I went to the Western Michigan/MSU hockey game. MSU won 1-0 but Dekeyser did not fail to impress. He must have played 25+ minutes including a ridiculous 3 minute shift to start the third period. He skates well, has a good shot, uses his size well, and his outlet passes were excellent. Even Spartan fans were singing his praises. He reminded me of Big E on the PK, and looks like he will be a nice stay at home defenseman with a little offensive touch. Hopefully Kenny and the gang can work a little magic and talk him into playing in GR next year.

Once he signs, we have another good young big Dman. Yes start next year in GR and go from there.

He may not want to play in the AHL at all and I wouldn't be surprised if there is an NHL team out there willing to guarantee him a roster spot just to get his signature on a contract.

If he is ok with playing in the AHL though the Wings should have an inside track on him with his former coach being the bench boss of the Griffins.

I agree that there are plenty of teams that will tell him he is NHL ready. However I think it would be detrimental to his development and his career will be better served to play a season in the AHL. I do know from talking to the WMU family at the game his favorite team is the Red Wings. Does that mean anything, who knows but it can't hurt.

If he doesn't sign with us, i will be stunned. He has campoed with the RW, grew up here, loves the RW, and last year when deciding what to do, he told the RW's advise to return for 1 more year. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he has a winged wheel tattoo somehwere......LOL

I hope you're right Rich.  I want him in Detroit.  After seeing what Schultz is doing in Edmonton, I don't wanna lose another guy who is highly touted like this.
