Time to blow it up and rebuild

I firmly believe the Holland seriously miss the boat to ease this transition from losing vets and bringing up the young players. Smith w/o a doubt should have been playing an entire season with Lidstrom the fact that he didn't I have to question upper managements decisions flat out loss opportunity. Tatar and Nyquist should be playing a lot more with Dats last year as well even this year. Instead Holland idly sits back and rides this sinking ship to the bottom of the ocean. I seriously don't know what he's thinking. There have been a lot of miss opportunities to give our young guys more exposure and more experience. Instead they are all inevitably going to be all brought up at the same time.

This attitude to let rookies sit in the minors and overripe is no longer an option it wasn't an option for the past few years and now its going to bite us in the ass. The amount of mentoring and learning from the vets are disappearing and the biggest one was Lidstrom. I'm no longer an Holland fan but more on the fence watching with suspect eyes. If he's the GM we all thought he was he's gotta be able to be a good GM even when s*** hits the fan and so far he's not doing so well.

Do all other teams fans act the way some do here? Are we the best team in the league? No. But we aren't the worst and certainly aren't in need of blowing up the roster and starting again. Jesus.

Trade datsyuk? If he's retiring from the NHL after this contract why trade him? Didnt so it to lidstrom, didn't do it to yzerman why do it to datsyuk who's given so much to detroit? Let the man retire a red wing.

Throw zetterbergs name around? Okay what drugs are you on? Holy s***.

This is the worst thread I've read on here.

A majority of fans wanting to blow up the team and rebuild are the same fans who won't be around to see the rebuild because they will be on another fan forum such as the Ducks fan forum.

This is...unbelievable. Do you actually believe this? Beyond the financial implications...that team you suggest won't even be fun to watch. Less so than this year's team is. I agree that it'll be time soon, but complete and total nuclear bombings never solve anything. Look at the Marlins.

They're a legit piece or two away from being a serious contender. Hold tight, guys.

Not to me. Even with a true #1 or a top line scoring winger, there are just too many players on this team that cannot play a full game.

I see the Wings at a true cross roads. Similiar to how the Flames were a couple of years back. We can either go down the dark road of a rebuild or hang on and try to be a middle of the pack team @ best.

Wings do not have anyone that can step in and be a high impact player and carry this team, like Z and D have done in replacement for Fedorov and Yzerman. We have people that might at best be 60 point producers but not 1st line superstars. Time to rebuild

We can't blow this team up. They would lose games. Have you ever been around here when we lose? It's like we'll never win another game ever.

If we blow up the team, hundreds of LGW people will die and no one will be left to feed their puppies.

Besides, in the games where they've tried it, blowing hasn't been working all that well for the Wings this season anyway.

What we need is a nice veteran d-man (think Cheli about 10 years ago) who will come in and help Smith and Lashoff develop, but can be counted on to take minutes when injuries strike. Kind of what Clolocolcoclcaoclocvio was supposed to be, only better and less injured.

Then we need Helm back, and perhaps a top six forward, preferably a sniper.

That's hardly blowing up the team, it's just tweaking it.

We also need to clarify to the boys that "give it your all for a full 60 minutes" does not mean 60 random minutes in their days. It means "the 60 minutes when the clock is running".

While Blue may be a little drastic, what he is saying is going to happen. just over 24 months, not 4 months. Fact is: Cleary, Miller, and White are all UFA's after this seasonand most likely gone. Bert and Sammy after next year. datsyuk my be gone after next year. Ericsson could be gone after next year. ilppula after this year. severa more are nearing te end as well. So as i was saying most of this is going to happen.

as of today we only have 7 players signed for the 2014/2015 season: Zetterberg, Franzen, Konwall, Abby, Helm, tootoo, and lashoff. That is it. I assume that Smith, Kindl, Howard, and Brunner will be resigned soon. That makes 11 out of 23 on a NHL roster.

To the original post I say, "slow down turbo."

1) Least anyone not notice the team is rebuilding.

Proof:

They transitioned to a stable under 30 #1 netminder, with a solid 28 year-old #2

The top 6 D are all home grown and, accept for Kronner under 30 and over 200 lbs (meeting some of the need to get bigger). The #7 Cola, just turend 30 in January.

They brought in a new top 6 with Brunner, 27.

They are also breaking in Andersson, Emmerton and Tatar/Nyquist.

More work needs to be done, but injuries and growing pains hurt the team at the same time. Bert going down (he is done) was bad for Pavel. Toss in Fil, Sammie and Helm and a transitioning forward group just lost a big bodied scoring winger (Bert), a playmaking/shutdown winger/center (Fil), a 3rd line & PP scoring winger (Sammie) and a stand out defensive specialist and all around energy guy (Helm). In the cap era, any team would struggle. When that team is rebuilding you get the product we see on the ice today. I lived through far worse and if these are the darkest of days, it will be be a rebuild where the team may not miss a post season (though it will be damn close this season).

I still contend that if not for the lockout, this team would look much much different right now. Given a full training camp & pre-season, we probably would have seen at least Nyquist & Tatar up full time at the start of the season. With the compressed, shortened season, Kenny was actually pretty smart to sign some known quality veterans to plug into the lineup instead of relying on rookies. As we've seen with all of the injuries, where would the Wings be now if they had already been relying on the likes of Nyquist, Tatar, Andersson, & Lashoff before the injuries started and suddenly didn't have the same depth available in GR to keep them in the hunt for the playoffs? No need to take drastic measures, the Wings are already in the middle of a transition that will naturally accelerate come this off season.

Wow. I hope you didn't shoot your TV or toss your xbox out the window.

It's easier said then done. Relax.. there is a lot of drama this season for this team, we get it. However, all teams go through this but as long as we have the same ownership then we'll be fine so be grateful were not the Islanders or the Oilers. Holland will have to step it up in the draft but the unfortunate part is that we have to wait 2-3 years to see if the team can contend for the cup.

If I had come to this forum before going to NHL.com to check the result, I would have concluded we had lost - based upon the top half dozen threads all being of the trade/buyout/sack everybody type.

This season has been the worst for knee-jerk reaction threads after every loss. If we're going to get a glut of knee-jerk reaction threads after every win, well, lets just say there aren't enough facepalms in all the world for that :dntknw:

I don#t think there is a huge need for a praise/failure thread after win/loss, but the time to rebuild would have been 2 years before, when it became ovious that Nick's career would be nearing its end. At least the Wings should have started it last year.

Can people really not see or understand that we're currently rebuilding on the fly?

I look at it differently. I do not see it a a drastic decline in the Wings, but rather, an improvement in the competition. The salary cap era was created to gain parity in the league, and I think it has done so. For a lot of those years prior, the Wings had an open checkbook and could dominate the league in paying for talent, and it showed. Unfortunately, it has caused a lot of spoiled fans that are now longing for the return of those days. Well, people, those days are over.

You know what's sad? Is that some people need to be reminded that there's a salary cap.

Datsyuk is the best player in the world. You don't trade a guy like him. I don't care when he retires. He must stay a Red Wing for life.

And why are we even having this conversation? As I type this despite all that has happend this season, #5 retiring #23 leaving, Homer retiring, injuries, lockout, WE ARE 5TH IN THE WEST!!!!! One point out of 4th. I could not be more inpressed with this club. The management, the coaching, the players have all been amazing. We are by FAR one of the best run teams in all of pro sports. Of corse we need to make some additions and subtractions, all teams do and hind sight is 20/20. But until we start missing the playoffs and are at the bottom the the standings I trust our coaching and managment 100% They have more than earned it.

You missed the part where Edmonton scored on themselves and sent it to OT.

When other teams get lucky goals against the Wings, it's because the Wings suck. When the Wings get lucky goals against other teams, the Wings aren't good enough.

You are really bad.

I've got a trade idea...

Phoenix could use a few more fans, maybe Holland can trade Blueadams to the Coyotes. Maybe for Yandle?

Maybe we could give them Cleary and Blueadams. For nothing at all, if that's what it takes. What an awful idea he's had. It's ok, we all have horrible ideas sometimes.
