Although he is another softy euro.

theman19 47 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 this is crazy, Jokinen is to Carolina what Franzen is to us (without the routine 50 point seasons) He cashed in big on ONE giant playoffs and since carolina never went back, who knows if he's still a beast post season. Regardless, he's streaky as snot, but when he's on,..he's clutch as all get out. Not much left of the shootout specialist anymore though i'm afraid.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 26, 2013 Jokinen is tempting but not really what this team needs. 1 Wingsfan72 reacted to this

DetroitRedWings1993 49 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 Jokinen could turn out to be another Franzen. If we could get him going, it might be better than sacrificing assets at the deadline.
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 Claim Jussi Jokinen! Frees up other assets for trading purposes. Come on, Kenny!
Franzine 739 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 Jokinen is to Carolina what Franzen is to us I don't think he is Carolina's best scorer.
theman19 47 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 A. At present Franzen isn't our's either,... B. several years ago Jokinen was carolina's best scorer,...just like Franzen was for us. C. I even said in my post that Franzen routinely scores 50 points,....... The point i was trying to make is that both got contracts based on their abilities in the post season (and the fact that in 09 jokinen was a 60 point player)
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 Why do you waive a player who has 46, 52 and 65 points in his last three seasons? One of them was also a 30-goal season.
number9 3,297 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 He's having a down year, but he's usually around a 50 pt guy. Still fairly young too. 3 mil contract till 2014. Could be worth it
theman19 47 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 The general thoughts around raleigh (where I live) is that he's washed up. He's been on Carolina's third line and had his job basically stolen by Riley Nash. He's no where close to that 30 goal scorer he was during Carolina's Eastern Finals run. Why do you waive a player who has 46, 52 and 65 points in his last three seasons? One of them was also a 30-goal season.
kipwinger 8,457 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 I'd seriously consider Jokinen, not as a permanent fix, but as something that could help. How far down the waiver list are we anyway?

evilmrt 636 Report post Posted March 26, 2013 I don't get this either even if he is having a down year. Really weird move by Canes GM Rutherford. He could have gotten a low pick at least. This is like Garth Snow weird. Ottawa put Kaspars Daugavins on waivers as well... Columbus will snap him up. They go to the shootout almost every single game. kipwinger 8,457 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 I believe we sit at #21 right now because we're at #9 currently in the standings Sort of a moot point then, Jokinen will definitely get claimed before he gets to us I'd imagine.
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) I don't believe that is how the waiver wire works. Nevermind, I stand corrected.. Waiver Priority If more than one team puts in a claim on a player during the waiver period, then the team with the higher waiver priority's claim is accepted. If the claim is before November 1, waiver priority is based on the previous year's standings, with the team with the worst record having first priority and the team with the best record having last priority. If the claim is after November 1, waiver priority is based on the current year's standings, defined as the lowest percentage of possible points. Let me state that I think that is ridiculous. It should be: season starts with waiver wire in order from Worst to First. If you use your waiver, you are put at the bottom of the list. All other teams stay in the order they were in. That way (potentially) every team would have a semi-fair shot. By ranking it PER WAIVER, the current lower seeded teams ALWAYS have a priority over the current higher seeded teams irrespective of the prior year's finish. It all but guarantees that perennially successful teams like the Wings will almost never have a decent shot at waived players because some basement dweller *cough* I'm looking at YOU, New York *cough* will have priority even if they've used 26 prior waiver claims in the season already. I believe we sit at #21 right now because we're at #9 currently in the standings Edited March 27, 2013 by FireCaptain
Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 27, 2013 Sort of a moot point then, Jokinen will definitely get claimed before he gets to us I'd imagine. Given the season's he's having and the overall impression that he's washed up, I doubt anyone will want him at $3m for next season.
