Zetts 236 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 The Hossa trade included Dupuis, and they also added Hal Gill. That was all for that season. If I'm remembering right, the Penguins have parted with their 2013 1st, 2nd, and 5th round draft picks, and their 2014 2nd round draft pick. However, they did pick up Dallas' 2013 3rd round pick. That honestly doesn't even look that bad to me. And three strong prospects.

OK, let's say that the Wings had given up their 2013 1st, 2nd, and 5th, 2014th 2nd, and three of Jarnkrok, Pulkkinen, Sproul, Ouellet, Tatar, and Sheahan for three players whom we could not possibly re-sign---one of whom was a third-pairing defenseman, another who was a beat-up power forward, and a third who was almost certain to return to his hometown anyway. No thanks. This is a team in the process of rebuilding on the fly. 4 e_prime, Nightfall, b.shanafan14 and 1 other reacted to this
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Hell of a gamble by Shero. Sometimes this kind of thing works out - I'm old enough to remember when the Rangers traded for a ton of players in '94. Sometimes it doesn't - I remember teh interwebz going into meltdown when the Avs signed Kariya and Selanne "just hand them the cup now!"

Hairy Lime 234 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Well, it looks like it's all or nothing for Pittsburgh. I believe I called this one. Man, I hope the Wings get some name that no one thought was available, because I'm not all that interested with any of the known names available. I thought Iginla and Morrow might have been nice additions, but I'm not all that broken up by not getting them. Pittsburgh is scary THIS year, but what of their future? Like I said, it's all or nothing, and you can't win big if you don't gamble...

xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Hoping this turns into the Pens version of the Wings 1999 deadline deals that brough Cheli, Ulf Samuelsson, Wendel Clark, & Bill Ranford to town. I was actually thinking this too. I think that these trades are great for the Pens, obviously and make sense to do them this year while the East looks really weak and disorganized. However, Crosby and Malkin are probably two of the NHL's most injury prone players. Does everyone like the Pens chances if Crosby goes down? Also, Iginla and Morrow are great, physical scoring additions to the team, but the Pens lost in the first round last year because they couldn't keep the puck out of their net. Is Doug Murray going to solve that problem all by himself? It just takes one team with a hot goalie to derail someone (see 2003 Mighty Ducks).
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 Wow. And I like Iginla. Guess I won't be liking him this year. Too bad, really. He's one of those guys I'd have rather seen on a team where I could be kind of glad if he won the Cup, but not really glad since it wasn't the Wings. Sort of like Hossa winning it with Chicago after coming so close twice. Maybe next year, Iggy, depending on where you end up. 2 Z Winged Dangler and hillbillywingsfan reacted to this

xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 (edited) So basically, even though the Flames felt Boston was offering a better deal, they went with Pittsburgh's offer because that's where Iginla wanted to go. A little fuel for the Bruins fire if they meet Iginla and the Pens in the playoffs. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/03/28/report-flames-preferred-bruins-deal-iginla-picked-pens/ Edited March 28, 2013 by xtrememachine1

Esquire 324 Report post Posted March 28, 2013 I just hope this pushes Holland to make some bold moves. For this team as it is, the trade deadline most likely won't yield any 'bold moves'. We can't be comparing Holland's moves to Shero's moves since the two clubs are vastly different in terms of what they can offer to players. If I'm being honest, this team is at least 2 years and several 'bold moves' from even sniffing the Pens level.
