Wings sign D Dan DeKeyser to 2-year deal

phew, no meltdown on here!

...yet

Glad to see the Wings win one of these "every team is courting him" competitions. From what I understand, the Preds were absolutely in full court press to try and land him.

Malik is predicting we'll play him a few games with the big club, then send him to GR for a bit. Since Blashill is in GR, it wouldn't surprise me to see that happen.

Well going forward the next few years with Kronwall, Ericsson, Smith, DeKeyser, Lashoff and Kindl were looking pretty good. Adding another #2/3 would really shore up the D. I know Q started to play better after the bad start to the year, but I don't believe he's the answer. Plus a right handed shot wouldn't hurt.

A lot of nice things to say about Danny from Corey Pronman:

DeKeyser is an obvious significant addition for the DET organization. 2nd best young dman in the org for them now behind Smith.

From NHL scouts I've talked to and as well as my own observations, DeKeyser is NHL ready and projects as an above-average NHL defenseman.

Also just because I say DeKeyser projects as an above-average NHL dman, does not mean I believe he will be that right now.

DET have good young D in the org--Ouellet, Sproul, Almquist, Marchenko-- but needed a guy who is of high caliber & ready now. Fits the bill.

DeKeyser, although JS obviously better player. RT @bornreddy91: more polished in own end coming out of college? dekeyser or justin schultz?

Damnit, Holland! :P

Congrats on us landing DD. Wonder how in turn will impact the trade deadline now

Congrats to Holland for landing DD. Believe it or not, he does do good things.

Just like addition of Hossa....

C'mon Deke-kid is die hard Detroit fan... This was easy work for Kenny.

It doesn't make sense, the idea that when things don't go well with free agents, it's Holland's his fault, but when things go right with free agents, it's not Holland but instead other factors. He was the one who got this done, with numerous other GMs trying as well.

Anyway, good signing, good for the team.

Us is meant as in the Red Wings organization. Please do not turn a good thing into something bad.

Apologies.

Yep, it's a good group. Lashoff may end up as #7 when all is said and done.

As far as I remember Hossa's agent called Kenny...

I wouldn't be surprised at that. Kindl keeps getting better and more comfortable, and DeKeyser will only get better as well. Lashoff's a young guy too, it's a good problem to have after everyone wrote us off when Lidstrom retired.

Horton

Boston isn't hurting for defense, and Horton is an important scorer. Not happening.

I'm fine with that, he may be NHL ready but I would not want a kid with only a day with the team to suit up against Chicago. Colorado is fine though.

Exactly what I was thinking. Chicago may make him go condition black. Colorado may have speed, but he's used to speedy college kids. I would be much more comfortable with him in his first game infront of the home crowd against Colorado. He's going to be nervous, anxious, first game playing for his childhood team, infront of his home crowd. Sure, he's played at the Joe for the CCHA, but it doesn't equate to playing in the Winged Wheel infront of a Red Wings crowd.

Will be curious to see how the glut at D will be resolved. How ironic that everyone thought our defense was decimated and now we seem to have an abundance of young, talented defensemen, with even more solid prospects waiting in the wings. Not bad for management that doesn't plan for the future.
