The New York Islanders and the 36-year-old defenceman agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $9.5 million on Friday. The deal includes a no movement clause.

In 22 games this season, Visnovsky has three goals and six assists.

Visnovsky was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and widely speculated as a player that could have been moved before the NHL trade deadline.

At first this seems strange as he was not pleased of being traded there but that was mostly because he wanted stability for his family. Now he's settled to live in NY for the next two years.

As a guy who likes to get out to the Isle to catch a game or two and ultimately, to be able to walk down the block to catch games at Barclay's.

It's nice to see the Islanders can retain some of their veteran guys.

It was not only stability for his family, but there were issues in Slovakia he wanted to deal with.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, Visnovsky's new contract includes a no-movement clause with a key bullet point.

He can be dealt in the second year of the contract at the trade deadline if the Islanders are out of playoff contention.

Despite all the drama that preceded his arrival to Long Island, Visnovsky brought over his wife and two children in early March after tending to a personal matter in Slovakia and expressed his happiness with his current situation.

Through 22 game this season, Visnovsky has three goals, nine points and is third on the team in time on ice with an even 23 minutes. His presence has helped out the NHL's 8th-ranked power play, with six of his nine points coming with the extra man.

Next on Snow's list is team captain Mark Streit. Staple reported this week that the two sides are progressing toward a three-year extension.

Keeping Streit would be great for them as well.

Maybe these Islanders players are thinking this team has a legit chance to make the playoffs soon and win.

4.5 is bit high for Visnovsky. Only two years though so it's not terrible.

Islanders are always so close to the cap floor that it doesn't really matter. They are a team that doesn't really have to worry if their players are overpaid or not.

I don't understand, he was against going there and Nabokov was against going there.....then end up signing extensions. NHL players are strange lol

To live in the New York area.

Especially for the families of players. Especially foreign players.

Ilses are the Guinness of the NHL. Looks and smells like dirty brake fluid, no way you want to try it, but after the first pint you realize it wont kill you and you'll let someone pay you a few million dollars to drink another. :)
