People here are dreaming if they think that Holland is going to make a big splash. Hell, he hasn't made a big splash at the trade deadline since before the salary cap. That really has limited what teams can do after all. The Wings want a top 6 forward or a top 4 defenseman, and the only assets they want to trade are prospects and not the #1 pick in the draft this year. That doesn't equate to making a splash today.

If I were Holland, I would trade Flip for a 1st rounder and trade Ian White for a 1st or 2nd rounder and call it good. Lets gear up for a better season next year.

With his production this year Flip won't garner a first, he would have last year or earlier in the season, could have got a Chris Stewart for him n the off-season (that's what I was suggesting at the time) and you definitely won't get a first for a vet d-man who has been a healthy scratch for several games

Why does anyone think Flip or White is worth a first rounder? White wasn't even good enough to crack our top 6 for several weeks. Flip seems uncapable of producing anything offensively this year. Like Holland wouldn't give up Ian White for a first rounder if it was offered.

The Wings are at least two top tier players--a top 6 forward and a top 4 (or 2!) defenseman--away from advancing deep into the playoffs this year. What do people seriously think the team has to offer to acquire those kinds of players?

I would hate to see the team mortgage the future for rental players.

How crazy would it be if the deadline was April 1st? There be so many April fools trades everyone would be going crazy. You wouldn't know which trades were legit and which weren't. I think it would be hilarious! :D

Anyways, predict 3-5 deals today... none which are huge/important significance. Even though I'd like to see some good moves!!! Com'on NHL!

Holland does not need to make a big splash, I hate to say this but the wings are not winning the cup this year. The group of guys we have are definitely capable of winning the cup, but a couple years down the line once our kids develop. The very last thing I want Holland to do is trade valuable prospects for a rental aging "star", and Holland wont do that.

This has been an awkward year for the wings with all the injuries that caused us to send kids up and down constantly, and the shortened season not allowing us to get in a groove. We will make the playoffs, which keeps the streak alive. Sign a defenseman and/or a scorer in the offseason, and in 3-5 years this team will have a cup. Please Holland, don't blow up our team.

the only problem with your theory is most likely in 3-5 years we won't have Datsyuk so I can't imagine we getting a cup without him anytime soon.

in 5 years, perhaps. the wings' future looks bright.

that said, I (as well as everyone on here i'm sure) would absolutely love for Pav to hoist another cup before his time here is done. *fingers crossed*

The problem with your theory is teams have won the cup with out Datsyuk since 2008

"I like our depth," Holland said Tuesday. "Unless we get that (top-four defenseman or top-nine forward), I don't think we have a deal."

From The Detroit News: http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130403/SPORTS0103/304030306#ixzz2PPsY2fuz

...i am going to hurl.....

While it's disappointing he likely won't make any moves again that part of the quote I don't have a problem with. Holland is exactly right. the last thing the Wings need is to give up assets for yet another depth guy. They need top end talent.

There's little point in a rental either.

It's disappointing, but honestly I was more disappointed when Holland didn't do anything the last couple seasons of Lidstrom's career. That's when it would've been worth giving up some assets for a deep playoff run before Nick retired. This season with the cap going down and Wings changing conferences, it's no surprise he's more conservative than ever.

I just found out I have a test in my Business Law class today, which is at 1pm. There is no way I'm gonna be able to focus on this test hahaha.

This lack of exciting trade news (whole league, not just the Wings) is killing me. I feel like a kid when my dad takes me to the candy store but says we can't buy any candy... why did we even come here then? lol
