I would like this deal much better if Jimmy were 24 or 25.  Just really no reason to sign him to a six year deal.  I don't think there would have been a huge demand for Howard league wide.

Right. NJD don't need a new G, Toronto doesn't have any G issues. isles same. Howard would have gotten much more on the market. 6+ million per year.

Good news. Glad to have Jimmy here for the long haul.

Five million dollars for a goalie who can't steal a game? Please.

2011 2nd round.  he stole 2 of the 3 games leading into game 7.

Earlier this week vs Colorado when the Wings collapsed a 3-0 lead into a 3-2 lead, who outright robbed their chance with less than 30 seconds to go?  Sure as hell wasn't Cheveldae.

How many games has he kept us in THIS SEASON ALONE while our offense has sputtered around in circles and given up horrific turnovers and breakaways?

2010 after the olympic break when Detroit was in 9th place, who stood and delivered a rock solid performance in the pipes to get us to the playoffs even though Lidstrom, Z, Datsyuk, and others were hurt that year?

say what you will, but he's done the job.

Lol troll. Also for everyone who says Howard was only good because of the teams we had in the past. Do you guys realize as of yesterday his gaa was the exact same for this season as his career gaa.

Maybe just maybe he made our d and teams look good? Considering its agreeable our team blows this year.

Term sucks

Caphit sucks

I love his attitude - like mentioned before - and I know, GMs have to overpay for future offers but Howard just isn't a 6 year 31,8 m type of goalie. Thats close to Luongo money in terms of caphit and that guy has won a gold medal, also for a few bucks more you are reaching elite league at this pricetag.

In other news - congrats to James T Howard, you;ve deserved this.

Actually, it's James R, but if you're making a Star Trek reference, I love you even more than I did five minutes ago.

I joined this forum when people were down on Nik (hence my name) and I said he's prove himself to us.  I'm glad I did, because in '08 people were pretty high on him.  People supporting Howard and his contract will find themselves rewarded in the same manner soon. <---yeah, I'm calling it now.

I love Howie, but maybe he should have given a discount since he can't win shootouts.

I forgot who first coined the James Tiberius Howard, but dammit it's such a great name!

And I'm glad you already love me ;)

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk

We finally have a good goaltender and people complain...if jimmy had the 2008 team infront of him, he'd win the vezina.
You guys need to be more positive

Remember that not everyone likes watching low scoring, one goal loses every night. Some people actually prefer offense.

If Jimmy had half the 08 team in front of him he would win the Vezina. I am happy for him. Ozzy used to get 18-20 shots a night with the best D in the league in front of him and he is considered a God around here. Jimmy is the only reason we are still in the playoff hunt at all.

We just can't score. Jimmy was never the problem. It's Cleary and Franzen

Give me a break, dude. The guy has only five points in his past four seasons. He's got to produce more at what we're paying him!

Ding ding ding. Howard is a workhorse and a good goalie. We lack 2 good snipers to put between Nyquist.

Z-Dats-Franzen
?-Nyquist-?
Filppula-Helm-Andersson
Abdkader-Emdog-Tatar

Ryan and Horton at the ?s and this team might win. Clearly and Brunner, and we are going to suffer.
