We control our own destiny...

The Wings are currently sitting 8th in the west but the fortunate thing about our situation is we currently control our destiny. With the standings looking like they currently do right now.

The other very interesting point is the two teams that trail us, Phoenix and Dallas, are both on our schedule in the remaining 8 games. The thing that scares me is we could be going in to game 48 against Dallas with a Winner gets playoffs game. Kinda like in 2010 when the Rangers played Philly and winner went on to the playoffs. Philly ended up winning that in a Shoot out. It's usually pretty obvious to say if you play better then the team below you then you will seed higher, but lucky for us even if we win just as many games as they do the rest of the way. We are still in.... This is going to be a fun final 8...

It's definitely a weird feeling knowing that our playoff chances could come down to the last game. I'll be happy as long as they make the playoffs. I want more Red Wings hockey and I want to keep that streak alive. I'm not ready for this half season to be over.

if the wings cant grab 7th....dont bother.

i do believe the wings can dispatch the ducks.

i KNOW the wings will be demoralized by chicago.

I'd actually rather them play the Ducks. I'd like to see Chicago sweep Minnesota and centcougar come on here saying how they were wronged somehow, and most of all I will be paying close attention to 3 vs 6. I want to see Backes completely goon up the Sedin sisters and we can all brace ourselves for an epic divefest of Perron vs.....well, pretty much the entire Cansucks team.

Maybe I'm crazy but I just don't see the Wings missing the playoffs. I think there is just too much talent on this team to miss them. When you have a crazy 48 game mini season everything gets magnified and the slightest thing can change quickly that's why I think alot of times the Wings look horrible and other times they look like contenders , its just a crazy season, but when their backs are against the wall they play better. But like I said maybe I'm crazy.

The Wings control their own destiny so-long as they keep the 8th seed, which is a more and more fragile situation. We are two points ahead of 3 teams which are all trending better than the Wings at the moment, and one with a game in hand. In other words, the Wings need to win more games then three teams which are currently playing better than they are, one of which has the benefit of a game in hand AND the ROW tie breaker....

So now ask yourself this: do the Wings REALLY control their own destiny playing the way they are?

Doesn't every team control their own destiny EVERY YEAR? All you got to do is win.

...after the last two games we've lost a bit of that "control" you spoke of.

Fifth through 11th place are now separated by all of six points.

This is going to be a nailbiter and very soon (if you're not already) we're going to be rooting for some of our least favorite teams to be beating some of our other least favorite teams on a nightly basis.

I've found myself more obsessed and ocd about the Wings this year than any other!!! I chewed all my nails off the 2nd week of play and they havent grown back:) usually that doesnt happen till 2nd round of playoffs...these last few games are going to be heaven n hell to watch for we fans!

Yea the last two loses really hurt us... But we stil got points which sorta helps... Lucky for us the only really tough game is Vancouver... We play a lot of the teams that are chasing us and we need wins against them. That's for sure...

Dallas' upcoming schedule is no picnic. They're on a 5 game winning streak, but they face CHI tomorrow then VAN, STL, LA, SJ, CBJ, DET. So those teams minus CBJ (depending on standings at the time) need to beat Dallas to give up some semblance of breathing room, but only if PHX and CBJ drops games along the way. In the meantime, Detroit has to absolutely win at least 4 of their remaining 7 games, if not more. It's possible with their upcoming schedule. They just have to want it bad enough.

...

Which pains me to say I'm just not sure how badly they want the playoffs based on their play this year. Guess they'll have to make it a point to shut up the doubters.
