Tough game. That Selanne goal was pretty weak. We badly need a split on the road

Oh also Bertuzzi and Samuelsson both need to be in

Do you really think that inserting Samuelsson, who has been addled with a plethora of ailments that have limited him to four games in the past calendar year, is going to make a positive difference?

As someone who has followed the Wings basically since birth, I reject the notion that I have to be satisfied with the product we are seeing right now or to take a hike. That's just true arrogance (or is it defeatism?) showing. Perhaps you should take the hike and get off of the bandwagon.

I am guessing by your whining and bitching that you were born 11 years ago ? Any guy that is a true fan that questions the roster 2 periods into game one of a 7 game series is lost. Settle in. Have some faith. Be a fan and not a knee jerk reaction negative nancy like some of your friends on here. We need to be better that is obvious This is our lineup. They all know how to get it done. LOL - I've been questioning this roster for 3 damned years now - it was clear Holland wasn't planning for the post-Lidstrom era and was and still is infatuated with guys like Sammy and Bert. Not to mention he gives up 1st round picks for Quincey ( )

And from what we've seen all year long, they clearly do have depth issues and will continue to have them as long as we rely on older players who are more fragile (or who have a lot of miles on the tires) and players who have ZERO grit (Ericcson/Flip especially).

What other than the last week of the season, has this group done this year to inspire any faith? This isn't 1997. And it sure as hell isn't 2002. Wake up. The Wings barely got into the playoffs in a shortened season, are playing with basically 1/2 of a d-pair and about 4 legit players in the top 6. There are some nice parts, but they lack shooting, physicality and any type of legitimate secondary scoring.

The better team won tonight. End of story. This may be a very quick series unless a completely different Wings team shows up. Open your eyes already.

Yeah I don't get the infatuation with Bert playing either. The guy hasn't played basically at all this year. Same with Helm. Inserting them now will only disrupt things and likely lead to further injury.

Say what you will about Samuelsson, I'm not his biggest fan either especially this version of him, but he has come up huge in the playoffs in the past. I'm not saying he will now, but he deserves a chance. Babcock needs to shift the lineup a bit after a loss. This is the perfect opportunity for it. He might have been injury prone this season, but that doesn't automatically mean he's going to be a liability for us in the playoffs.

He has one goal in his past 18 playoff games.

Well i had Anaheim in 7 so not surprised they took the first game. Not sure why so many ppl wanted the Ducks when i thought even tho we beat them twice they outplayed us in both games and once pretty badly. I guess most ppl were in bed for those games.

The alternative was Chicago. At least we won against the Ducks.

I tend to stop reading when people use such arbitrarily absolute terms as "end of story" and "open your eyes" in a discussion in which so much is subjective. Your word ain't the last, pal.

We don't need to start mixing things up after losing the first game of the playoffs. We are treading in unusual waters, we aren't the elite Red Wings anymore, we are the 7th seed facing the 2nd seed and it's not going to be an easy feat to pull off. I believe it's possible but tend to maintain realistic expectations considering the fact that this time around we really are the underdog and will remain so if we advance further. We didn't lose 7-1, we lost 2-1 and we aren't facing a catastrophic situation considering the success of the team we are facing.

With that said, in this playoff environment and the physical nature of game 1, I wouldn't mind seeing Bert join the squad. Other than that, Sammy, White, they can stay where they are.

Several thoughts:

Settle down on Kindl. The kid is not "terrible". That said, our rookies looked terrified and confused so I hope their nerves subside a bit and they figure it out.

I'd like to see Bert in even if it's on a lower line...I have a good feeling about him in this series.

Hiller was way better than Hiller. Where did that come from?

God I hate Corey Perry sooo much.

Can't believe anybody is bagging on Ericsson after that since he was one of the players I was actually really pleased with during this game.

Lastly, I still think Detroit will take Anaheim in 6.

The Mule didn't get his first shot on goal until the 3rd period...that is not pretty good, unless you are talking about Franzine...we need playoff Franzen now...unless his 7 goals in 8 games was his hot streak and now its time to float some more, because he certainly didn't do too much tonight...but he wasn't the only one.

But gee whiz, he don't even make 4M, it's fine if he only shows up when he wants to. If he put effort into every game we wouldn't be able to afford him.

This game wasn't even close. They outplayed us past the first period and we're lucky Howard gave us a sliver of chance. They managed to really expose the inexperience of our defence by stifiling us before we could exit the zone. They were aggressively forechecking with two players and we weren't good enough to overcome it with our stretch passes. And Selanne will forever be a Wing killer. I hate that guy.

You know what's good for the wings? They played like crap and only lost 2-1  Did anyway else notice a bunch of shots to Hiller's glove side? I don't care what the scouting report said. That is not going to work in the playoffs.

this exactly was the reason we lost

He should still play. He has the experience and ability to make a difference. He's not a game changer butwwe need depth. 09 finals. He was absolutely clutch. See him score a goal or two and all the naysayers, yourself included, will disappear.

I don't think we watched the same game.

That game could easily.have gone the other way. We got tons of good chances. We hit. Nyquist got outmuscled once or twice, but we got into Anaheim's zone quite a bit.

Flip was terrible, Nyquist was weak on the puck and Franzen didn't get a shot til late in the game.

Could've been better but Anaheim didn't clearly outclass us. I'd like to see Bertuzzi in to help with possession on those bottom lines though.

We need Helm to match up against Cogliano.

As Darkmanx said, we need Tuzzi to match size with Getzlaf and Perry.

We need Cleary out of the top 6 for Tatar.

And lastly, game 1 reminded me of last years playoffs against Nashville where we got to the playoffs and then forgot to bring offense with us. They didn't create jack for offense and I almost fell asleep half way through that borefest.

I think it's time to get Bert back in the lineup. I give Nyquist a lot of credit for his work ethic, he's definitely trying out there, but he got out-muscled a few times and he's not finishing. Brunner could also potentially sit.

Bringing in one grinder and taking another one out would fix the problem for sure. :sleepy: Cleary played well last night, even if the goal was a lucky shot he deserves credit for being in the right spot at the right time. Thats whats Homer getting credited for though.

I really don't understand some of you guys. We lost a game 1 of a possible 7 game series 2:1 and you are acting like its first game of the season against the Blues. What did you expect ? That we sweep them in 4 ? There are not in 2nd place for nothing. Maybe it would be wise to bring in Bert but for whom ? Only possibiltiy I can think of is Eaves. Any other player would be a risk (Top-two-lines) or just change a grinder for a grinder ( Tootoo, Cleary)

I can say for once Im cool as a cucumber waiting for the real season to start. Getting to 22 post-seasons was my hope this year, every number at the top of the page I see is gravy.

I feel the same way. I still want to beat the Ducks though. They have no class and nor do their fans.

Red Wings Suck chant during a tie game?

You're spot on. It was like the Wings in 2003-04 with giguere shooting 5-hole. Take some different shots. They need to get more pucks to the net and crash it. Turning rebounds into goals wins the cup.
