Official Franzen VS Hossa

Is there really a chance the Hawks need to buy out Hos Or is it just speculation?

As of now, the Blackhawks have 21 players signed for next year & projected cap space of a little over $2m. There might be a chance if they want any cap flexibility at all & also get rid of the risk of carrying cap hit for him if he retires early under the new CBA.

You can't really fault Holland for signing Franzen. He had an EPIC playoff run to the Cup, he was younger and a guy we drafted. He was very comparable to Hossa and you got him for cheaper. Sure we can sit back now and talk about what has transpired but I don't fault Holland for making that decision when he did.

I have to agree.

Because he did...

Well, that's a little misleading since what you're referring to is his cap hit. He actually signed for $7.9m a year until his contract starts to back dive. To get it to a manageable cap hit, the Blackhawks doubled the number of years at $1m at the back end of his contract that you'll find on Hank's & Mule's (4 vs 2) which takes him until he's 42. Under the new CBA, that might come back & bite them in the ass as they'll have cap consequences now if he retires before the contract is up or they wind up with an ineffective 40+ year old Hossa playing on their 4th line a couple of seasons.

Hossa regular season player. Mule playoff player. Take your pick.

You do know hossa is 5th in playoff points for active players right? Not too bad for a "regular season player".

Most of those points were piled up years ago. What have you done for me lately? Hossa plays a good defensive game in the playoffs I guess, but he has been a bust for the most part in the playoffs.

Funny that Franzen is a - 6 so far this playoffs.

I like Franzen still and I'm not a hater.

For the record I think the + and - stat is legit though.

Tells what good and bad things happen when your on the ice.

My beef with Franzen is that he doesnt punish anyone. What good is 6'3 235 if you play like youre 5'10 180? Would be nice if our -6, 6'3 guy could smash Bickell's face in at the end of the game. I hate seeing the Wings take cheap shots with no retribution.

I agree but something is working for us.

So no complaints.

Also my beef is Franzen and Hossa are 2 different players.

Not even comparable unless you want to pin point scoring numbers.

Both drafted differently, grew up in different systems with different expectations.

Sh** Franzen was a third liner who exceeded expectations for us.
