And to the guy who said they would have scored that third one in the same fashion at the same time regardless of whether Howie got his stick caught up back there or not, come on, lets take off the homer glasses and get real.... The only reason they scored that one was because Howie had his stick caught up back there and thus couldn't get around in time to make the save.

Puck gets stuck on the side of the net what do 95% of goaltenders do? They put there stick or glove over it to freeze it and get a faceoff which is what Howard was trying to do. He wasnt trying to flip it off the net like the idiot Edzo was saying. Chicago got in and broke it up and was able to get it out front. Its a perfect example of them out-skating and wanting it more than the Wings. Not homer goggles just what happened.

I live in NW Indiana (Valpo) and I got about 10 texts and then Facebook blew up! At least on FB I can "approve" posts. Of course I deleted all of them!!!

As you should...I get a little razzing if its warranted, but when it comes from those who as I said did not even know what hockey was until June 2010 then I don't even bother to waste my time to give them a response.

I would usually rip the Wings for a performance like this... 20 minutes of pretty good play followed by the laziest 40 minutes i have seen in a while but I know they are much better and the team from games 6 and 7 against the Ducks was not the team that played tonight. This was just a matter of the Hawks being fresh and the Wings being very tired off of a long 1st round series.

To be honest wasn't even impressed with the Hawks considering how bad the Wings played. That game looked like a regular season game. Wings looked better in that 4-0 loss to the Ducks.

Just need to bring a winning attitude into game 2, plain and simple. Bring effort, energy and drive to win. That didn't happen tonight, but they have shown they are capable of bringing that to the playoffs this year. It needs to happen and happen fast.

Howie was good tonight, but those first 2 goals he let in were weak by his standards. They were not softies, but he has shown he is capable of making those saves. he'll come out next game and prove it. The wings need to minimize their turnovers, and just shoot the damn puck. The PP needs to be better, they had 3 chances to take the lead and failed. If they score on one of those it's a completely different game.

it doesn't even matter, the wings only managed to muster 21 shots, 7 in the first, 5 in the second, and 9 in the third, and the hawks were all over them. They only got one goal, wouldn't matter if it was 2-1 or 12-1, you cant score by only scoring one (tying) goal. The turd, excuse me I mean third line was OK tonight, but none of the lines got it done at all, and Smith looked atrocious again! turnover after turnover, every time he touched the puck, he was like a 6th skater for the hawks

Young legs move fast. And they're skilled. they lost Byfuglien, Ladd and Versteeg and reloaded with Leddy, Saad, Shaw and Bickell. They only had 1 down year after winning the Cup and now they're lethal as f*** again. Leddy is pretty much as good as Keith now. Thank god we're moving East next year, cause the Hawks are gonna stay good and the BJ's are gonna be something to keep an eye on 1 or 2 years from now.

They won't be nearly as good next year, they need to shed quite a bit of salary, and BJ's will be in our conference next year, as they are moving as well.

I'm willing to make a wager with Fat Guy in a Maltby Jersey.

If the Wings get swept, as he predicts ... I will never post in this forum again. If they don't ... he leaves forever.

I'll even wager $100 to the charity of his choice on it.

good luck, he is just a troll. he WILL NOT take that wager, he is more talk than action, unless he would like to prove me wrong?

No way Babs let's them get away with playing another game like tonight, all we need is one. Howard is locked I'm but its going to take an effort like the end of the Ducks series every night to pull a W out against these guys.

That was one of the most heartless, passionless, gutless playoff performances I've ever seen from the Wings. Sleepwalking. Somebody better wake them up and tell them the series started.

Did you see the Game 7 comeback by the Bruins the other night? Less than half the 3rd period was left, and they were down by 3, not two. They were playing like crap, looked like they had given up. But, they got their chit together, focused, and bounced back for the win. Why don't the Wings seem to have that kind of character?

Everyone says it was a Leafs collapse...I say it was an inexperienced team shellshocked by the ******* dragon the Bruins suddenly turned into with 9 minutes left in the game.

The Leafs let up and were in a feel good state before the game ended. The Bruins smelled it like a shark smells blood in the water and devoured them, then the Bruins ended the game.

I would love to see something truly amazing like this, maybe we will. But we sure as hell won't see that if we play without heart, guts, and drive. Some players on Boston woke up and then got everyone in on it -- they had the guts to believe they could still win and had the heart keep fighting.

^ The Wings aren't playing the Leafs here. This Chicago team is experienced and knows how to win and close out games. We got exactly what we expected tonight, a tough game from a good team. That being said, we kept it close and Howard was terrific. We need to start capitalizing on our chances more, especially on the PP (0-3 will not cut it in this series). Hoping for a better showing in Game 2.

Not at all disappointed. The young guys will bounce back and the veterans will keep em calm. They had the jitters and now that's out of the way.

Howard was fantastic. Imagine a healthy Helm and Dekeyser. I've said it before. Making the playoffs was a bonus to a team decimated not just by injuries but retirements and personnel changes. Every game this young core plays is every game they gain extremely valuable experience.

Babcock is the best and will find a way to rally. Chicago is tried and tested. That pressure was very evident at the 1-1 score for 1/3 of the game.

When dats and zata and mule goes beast mode, they'll win this series because the young guys will follow suit.

Nope, they're playing the team that swept them in the season. It's gonna take more than throwing in the towel in the third period to win.

It was more a Leafs collapse than a Bruins onslaught.

As I said after the first game against Anaheim : This was our first chance, No. 2 comes on Saturday so the pressure is all on the Hawks.

That said our guys played well in the first period, then the turnovers began to get more and worse. If they can fix this they are capable to beat the Hawks and if Howie plays the way he did tonight im quite confident they will.

Tatar is tearing it up right now, too bad they won't give him a call up.

Id love to see Tatar up with the Wings but correct me if Im wrong cant he not be called up until after the Griffins playoff run? Or unless someone on the Wings gets injured?

What an embarassment! How many mistakes can Smith make in one game? He was just awful! I have zero confidence in that guy... please someone teach him how to clear the zone, please. I think I would add Tootoo next game, probably sit Bert.

I think Smiths confidence is shaken right now. I wouldnt mind him sitting a game to try and compose himself. Especially with the extra days rest between games 1 and 2 it might do him some good.

We all knew Hawks were favored to win it. At least we hung in there for two periods and shook off some butterflies. If we get bounces on Saturday we take home ice advantage and take it a game at a time. Howard will have to be huge because the shot differential was scary.
