The swiss d-man from Nashville will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's been named MVP at the WC in Sweden. It would be nice to have him in Detroit no? What do you think of him?

I don't see why we should be spending what little cap room we have on another d man. Our defense is fine and will be better next year. We need scorers/forwards. But with that said I think he is good no doubt bug we don't have the room for him.

First off, I'm certain he's RFA, not UFA. Nashville will retain him.

Kronwall-Ericsson

Quincey-Smith

Kindl-DeKeyser

Colaiacovo (Lashoff if, in some rare case, a compliance buyout is used on Cola)

There would be no room for him. Not a bad defender, though. Will continue to improve and be a good partner for Weber, I think.

The most popular choice among the Red Wings as to who would volunteer to play goalie – several Panthers did in their game – was Brendan Smith.

"He's pretty competitive and he seems to be good at everything," Justin Abdelkader said. "He'd volunteer himself."

Babcock was a bit more hesitant about Smith. "Yeah, yeah, just work on getting out of your zone," Babcock said

That could be a steal for them down the road. Maybe a slight over payment right now.
