If this doesn't work Sakic has to fire the best goaltender the Avs ever had, an alltime great AND a tight buddy of himself, so this a gamble.

Shortterm it will help filling the seats no question.

I wonder if Roy still beats his wife?

Probably not since the divorce, although one never knows these days.

For your viewing pleasure -

God I love this so much.  Best thing - after the 5th goal the crowd started cheering for him when he made a save.  OMG.

From Flames coach Bob Hartley:

“He’s gonna be different than a lot of them because along with a lot of talent he had a fantastic attention to detail,” predicts Hartley. “Coaching is all about details. Patrick never sat on his talent. He’d have a bad game and I’d be driving home from the game with a smile on my face because I knew we’d have a good chance to win the next 10. The next morning the lion would come out of his cage and he’d be on the ice 45 minutes before everybody else, he’d have sat in the video room an hour before everybody else, watching the goals he’d given up, punching the walls. When we started on the ice, he’d skate by me and say ‘I won’t give up that kind of goal again for a long, long time.’ And all I’d say is: ‘I know.’

“He’s the best winner I’ve ever coached. It’s not for me to say what will happen, but for him, in Colorado, it’s a natural.

From now on, Patrick Roy will be rolled out to and from the Avs' bench like Hannibal Lecter. - BottleOfSmoke

Ultimate case in point: Wayne Gretzky.

And the bookend to that argument:  The playing career of Scotty Bowman.  And Mike Babcock...

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk

Negotiations are taking a little longer than normal because he's busy lining up jobs for the members of his family.

The only thing that will better than the day he is hired will be the day he is fired.

Hey! Maybe he can get a couple of his players black-listed from hockey like he did to his own son!  Patrick Roy for the Jack Adams!

I love how the video maker highlights the parts over and over again when Roy says, I told him NO! Although on the bench he did the complete opposite.....

He Needs To Retire A Red Wing.

When Gordie Leaves Us, the NHL MUST Retire The #9.

I can't remember too many famous goalies becoming NHL coaches (let alone successful ones). Especially someone with Roy's personality, back when goalies were all a little weird.
Also, I think it's a little dangerous to have an organization run and coached by the most popular players the team ever had.  Hard for fans and ownership.  It's like those guys will have immunity now.
That said, I always wanted Yzerman to run the Wings when he retired, but there's certainly potential for a problem there.

No one saw this coming.

No one.

This was sarcasm, just to be clear.

The Avs know they're gonna suck for at least another three seasons. They've gotta find a way to keep people interested, get butts in the seat...make money. 2-3 top draft picks in the top 5? Patrick Roy behind the bench? No Wings every three weeks? Oh, the marketing possibilities...

Watched every second of the Roy video. Remember that game very well. The statue of liberty goal in Game 6 was just as good. Hasek stood on his head that year.

The only way I would ever go to a Dives game with Roy as the coach is if it was guaranteed he would throw some kind of tantrum or start a fight or some other kind of shenanigans.  Maybe when the Dives goalies start to get lit up he appears on the bench at the start of the next period in full gear ready to go!

That would be entertaining as hell.

If anything, it will get people in Colorado interested in the Avalanche again.
