Tip of the hat to Babcock

This may be the best coaching job he's done. The moves he has made through the whole playoffs have been perfect. He demands alot from his players and they love the guy.

He is coaching circles around the Blackhawks Quenneville. To the point it doesn't look like the Blackhawks belong on the ice with the Wings.

Babcock dare I say coach of the year?

If only the Sens could turn it around and beat the Pens..

Then, Babcock would have a chance to beat all 3 "coach of the year" candidates while en route to the Cup!

haha that'd be great. I'd love to see a tie breaker for the cup between the wings and pens before we move east though

this is even more satisfying because i think i remember analyst clowns on either nhl network or nbcsports saying babcock vs. quenneville gave neither team an advantage. i don't think it's a homer thing to say babcock's getting the best of pornstache this series and every series they've coached against one another.

I've loved Babcock's coaching from day one - he's a one-of-a-kind. Everything from his personality, to the respect he demands from his players, to his level-headed demeanor on the bench (and of course, that stare) exudes confidence. More importantly, he seems to have an idea in his mind of what needs to happen, and everybody from the 4th line center to the media knows that he's going to stick with it without panicking and changing things every two games.

I admit that I was not a fan of the Abdelkader thing when he started doing that. Yes, the team's record has been great since he did that, but that line (and Datsyuk, in particular) did not do well for quite some time. Doing that not only created a balanced top line (and made #8 suddenly look like a legit Top 6 forward), it allowed the Griffins' kids to stay in the lineup and develop their own chemistry on those 3rd and 4th lines.

Babcock makes teams better by the end of the year. People surprised by what's going on right now still have a mental image of that February team that was a defensive mess. They won't have that image for too much longer.

I'd rather see Wings vs Bruins and at least be able to not have the prospect in the back of my mind of the Pens winning the Cup. I at least respect the Bruins and their franchise.

Just think of what Babcock could do with Kane. Kane has all the skills and talent to be every bit the thief that Datsyuk is, but he doesn't want to work that hard. Babs would lead him, challenge him, and teach him. Quennville enables him.

Guest Hatethedrake!

I think Babs used the media to help motivate this Wings team. I mean think about it...Going into this series NO ONE gave us a chance. Even on this board most of us said we would be lucky to win 1 or 2 games. Some said it would go 7 but most of us thought the Hawks would win. I suppose they still might. It aint over til its over right?

Anyway, I bet Babs told the team HEY LOOK AT WHAT EVERYONE THINKS? WE DON'T BELONG ON THE SAME ICE AS THEM. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT? WE HAVE NO CHANCE. THEY ALREADY HAVE CHICAGO IN THE CONFERENCE FINAL.

Nothing brings a team together quite like an US VS THE WORLD MENTALITY. Babs knows how to get the most out of this team that's for sure!

I'm not sure if 'love' this the right word to use. The players probably have a lot of respect for him and listen to him. They may love him. But I'm not sure there aren't times when they hate him too.

Probs to Babs getting it done so far this year. He faced a lot of adversity and some people were talking about him being on the hot seat, but I never thought that was the case.

Props to the entire front office and staff for staying the course. I'm not saying the team still doesn't have holes, but this run makes me feel a lot better about the team moving forward, as I'm sure is the same a lot of other Holland, Babcock, etc. bashers are thinking, though I'm sure there are still plenty out there who will say fire all of them.

Yea I wouldn't mind that either and I like seguin a lot so it'd be cool to watch him but beating the pens again would be so satisfying..

That being said tho, I hope we at least win the conference.. It'd be nice to win the west our last year in it!

Babcock is now 11-2 vs the Q-stache in the post season, 2-0 in series, hopefully soon to be 12-2 and 3-0!

That my friends is the definition of OWNAGE!

I thought they said that Q & B had coached in 5 series against each other..

Perhaps that stat was that this is the 6th series Q's coached against DET (various coaches and teams) - the previous 5 were all losses.

96-97 1st round Blues
97-98 2nd round Blues
01-02 2nd round Blues
07-08 2nd round Avalanche
08-09 3rd round Blackhawks
12-13 TBD! Edited by FireCaptain

Ditto for Mike Babcock. What he's doing to Joel Quenneville in this series is illegal in 15 states. He's not just stealing Q's lunch money, he's picking him up, taking him to the cafeteria, turning him upside down, shaking him until all his change falls out of his pockets, makes him pick up any coins that fell on the floor, and then forcing Q to feed him delicious cafeteria french fries with gravy.

This morning I watched his post-game interview. He sure is a classy guy. Never blames anyone. Speaks up for Wing players that the media is trying to put into a bad light. Gives credit to the refs for doing the best they can in a tough situation. Doesn't answer stupid questions.

I am glad he is the coach of the Wings. :)

I love Babcock and unlike someone like say..Tortorella, it's never all about him. He rarely cries about calls, never calls out anyone, never throws childish tantrums, never gets nasty with the media and he's always a class act in every interview. The game 7 Cup loss and these three straight melt down games are a bitter pill to swallow indeed. I'm not sure what his motivational tactics were but I think he did the best he could with the squad he was given. This one stung for sure. We should've beat this overrated team but that's the way it goes. Future looks bright for the young guys and maybe we can shed some of that fat that's holding us back in the offseason and bring in some muscle.

Can you believe the guy has never won the Jack Adams? Its a ******* travesty. He should have at least 3. One with Anaheim in 2003 and 2 with the Wings in 2008 and 2013.

I also remember a handful of people calling for his head midway through the season. If the Wings fired Babcock, they would not only be retards, but he would also have his pick to coach any other team in the NHL.

The guy is the best coach of the past decade.
