toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted May 29, 2013 So, the ECF has bee set since Sunday, yet they don't start playing until Saturday? I get that you don't want to start until the WCSF is complete, but that will happen tonight. When will the WCF start? Sunday? Are we going to be without any hockey for a couple days? Makes no sense...I thought they would want to get games going and get through SCF as soon as possible. There's obviously no benefit to winning early any more either as it looks like teams that go to 7 will get plenty of rest and teams that finish quick will be out of game shape. That's less important though as both teams in the ECF will be in the same boat that way.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 29, 2013 I heard that the Kings will be playing either Saturday or Sunday depending on who they play. Not sure the story on that. I guess it depends on where they are playing.

I guess it depends on where they are playing. That's just annoying to me, especially if they start on Saturday. Not only will there be no hockey tomorrow or Friday, there would be nothing on Sunday either as both series will start on Saturday.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted May 29, 2013 I suppose they have to go with what's scheduled in the respective venues. From what I've heard (read: not a reliable source) they have to keep so many days per week open until they are eliminated so that there can be at least 3 or 4 possible days each place throughout the playoffs. Not sure if they specify one night each weekend or not, but that would make sense.

Just checked calendar of events at the Pens arena....nothing scheduled tonight, tomorrow or Friday. What I suspect is happening is that they are trying to get as many weekend games in as possible, so if they start Saturday, even if it only goes 4 or 5 games, you still cover 2 weekends. Makes sense to me. Better ratings, and if it ends after 5 games (call that an average), you get the weekend crowd. If not, it will be an elimination game, and people will tune in during the week no matter what. I bet the players are happy for a day or two to rest as well.
