It's weird to think the Wings have only had two first round picks since 2008.

Towards the middle it talks about he uses his size pretty well.

The hockey News draft mag says he's not expected to be a point producer even though he was close to a point per game plus it says he has a tendency of disappearing come playoff time. They said he's more of a 3rd line guy. Mantha or Rychel would be my picks if they went forward

i wouldnt be opposed to maybe trading our 18th for picks 25 and 34

17. STEVE SANTINI D 6'2 207 R Mar. 7/95 USA U-18 USNTDP

18. FREDERIK GAUTHIER C 6'5 210 L Apr. 26/95 Rimouski QMJHL

19. VALENTIN ZYKOV RW 6'0 210 R Apr. 15/95 Baie-Comeau QMJHL

20. KERBY RYCHEL LW 6'1 200 L Oct. 7/94 Windsor OHL

21. JOSHUA MORRISSEY D 6'0 182 L Mar. 28/95 Prince Albert WHL

22. MADISON BOWEY D 6'1 200 R Apr. 22/95 Kelowna WHL

23. ANTHONY MANTHA F 6'4 190 L Sept. 16/94 Val-d'Or QMJHL

...if any of the bolded players are available and Holland actually takes one of them, I would be VERY happy with him!

I see on that list that our boy McCarron has up'd his stock in this draft.  I sure hope he is available in the 2nd round to us...

I know we talk about size up front and our need for scoring, but I am telling you, that Santini is very interesting.  Right handed shooting defenseman, 6'2" 207lbs at 18 years old!  By time he makes the Wings (if drafted) he will be every bit of 6'4" 225lbs...of course Gauthier is a big at his age too! He could be a huge forward for us in 4 yrs.

I doubt McCarron makes it to the 2nd round. He seems to have a lot of upside and at worst a big physical forward who can skate. Alraedy 6'5" 229ilbs and growing, he's gonna be a monster. I wouldn't be surprised if the Wings trade down and get him and a bonus 2nd rounder(or prospect) out of it again.

http://www.google.ca...4,d.dmQ&cad=rja

"Mike McCarron — A revelation in the tournament, McCarron should continue his rise up many draft boards. At 6-5, 225, he doesn’t have to do much to be noticeable, but it seemed he was doing something every time out. Not just a bruising forward, McCarron showed terrific skating and puck skills. He was incredibly difficult to out battle along the boards and while he didn’t throw his weight around a ton, he showed he can be physical. McCarron has elite puck skills for a player of his size and showed both a willingness to distribute and a lack of fear of his shot, which is quite good. His footwork is solid enough and improving. There’s a good chance a team is going to take the risk late in the first round just because of McCarron’s immense upside. His decision-making could improve a bit, but the physical tools are right where they need to be at this point. McCarron could turn into a heck of a pro hockey player down the line. U18WC Statline: 7 GP, 3-2–5, 14 PIM, E. Projected Draft Range: Late-First to Early-Second Round"

A fight against Mike McKee's 5'10" teammate Jimmie Devito, looks like he is fighting Danny Devito lol. Devito actually takes him down. He is a tough little customer. 113 PIMs this year and a lot of youtube fight videos

Johnz96- I like your plan to trade down and take McCarron, if Mantha isn't available. Or why not package our 2nd and 3rds for a change and get them both?

i dont think a team would trade there 1st round pick for our 2nd and 3rd  it would have to take our 1st round pick to be involved in a deal to move down

Not necessarily, Holland has traded his 1st round to teams before for their 2nd rounders... The year he drafted Ferraro, he traded his 1st round pick to Tampa I do believe for the 32nd pick. It has been done...and again in 2011 to trade down to draft Jurco...

sidenote: That 2011 2nd round could be a huge one for Detroit, they drafted Jurco, Sproul and Ouellet in that ONE round.

if there's a big skilled forward to pick at #18, there has to be something wrong with the player. shouldn't last that long

yes he traded his 1st round(24th overall) pick for 2  2nd rounders (35 and 48 overall) nobody will trade us there 22nd pick lets say for 48 and 79 .... theres a big gap there , we just had to wait 11 spots and then get another pick 13 picks later

i can see something like detroit trading there 18th pick to mtl for there 25th and 34 or 36th pick but i cant see anyone giving up a 1st for a 2nd and a 3rd round pick of ours

i read columbus might be willing to trade one of there 1st round picks ( they got 3) for defensive help ... they got picks 14,19 and the kings pick ( would be nice to get 18 and 19 overall)

anyone got any ideas what we could offer up for 19th pick or the kings pick? ... lashoff, coliacovo and ferraro?

also i was checking up past drafts and noticed some pretty bad players getting there rights traded for picks ( benoit pouliot for a 5th , our backup gus got traded for a 7th ,wideman a player and a 5th ,ehroff twice for a 4th etc )

anyways point of that is i hope if were not gonna resign filppula we can at least get a 4th or 5th for him before july 5 ... same as our other ufa's

I watched the videos, not a huge fan of Mccaron. Seems a bit slow, the only thing he has going for him is his size, and he has a pretty decent shot. I would prefer a fast big physical power forward, like Bertuzzi in 2003

Kids that big usually need more time growing into their bodies. He will be a big physical forward at the least and might turn out to be a big fast dominant power foward.

I dunno, in a deep draft like this, I would prefer if we went after someone who was a better skater, big bodied forward with hands

He is already a good skater for his size but will be much better. His skating reminds me a lot of Primeau's at the same age.
