The Flyers aren't really in that much trouble with the Cap. Remember Pronger doesn't count against it because he'll be on LTIR until his contract is up.

They actually have about 5 million is space to re-sign Gagne and to round out their roster.

Capgeek is a little inaccurate with Philly's roster because they had so many injuries at the end of the season. There are a lot of guys on their Capgeek roster that will be back in the minors freeing up a bunch of space there as well as Pronger's money.

Can you stay on LTIR for 4 years?

What's Ryder's deal, why haven't any of his past teams wanted to keep him? I don't know much about him, just seems to score when he's playing us.

Stephen Weiss wasn't on the list, which I think is an oversight. He's a good 2nd line center, but above all else, Detroit was rumored to have been interested in him at the trade deadline. I think if Flip walks, then the Wings are even more likely to pursue Weiss than they already would have been. He's the kind of guy Kenny likes too. Good two way forward, scores goals, plays good defense, and is good on the PP and PK. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he ended up wearing the Winged Wheel come July 5th.

I don't think there are any rules against it.

He's already been on it for 2 years, has moved away from Philly and has no intentions of ever playing hockey again despite not filing his retirement papers.

I think Philly plans to exploit the LTIR loophole for the duration of his contract as it was a 35+ contract and would count against them if he retired.

Clarkson or Horton. Ribeiro would be okay for the right price as well.

If Iginla is available, I'd pursue him. Especially if Pittsburgh doesn't win the Cup.

He's too old, I'd rather invest in someone who can benefit us for a longer period.

See I think they need a cap on litr. I think if a player is on for two years straight he should be forced into retirement.

Regarding Iginla, for the right price he could be a great two year acquisition, His veteran leadership is undeniable his work ethic is undeniable and his presence around the younger players would be another great influence.

Plus he is still an effective scorer and would be awesome On Datsyuks wing.

Yes I prefer someone younger like Horton or Clarkson but of course there will be a huge bidding war for them, and if we don't win it Iginla would be a viable alternative.

He might not be around as long as those guys but I think Iginla would still make more of an immediate impact than either of them.

Thanks. That's another point I was going to make. He will make an immediate impact and fill the gap until Nyquist and Tatar reach their primes.

I voted Ryder (goals) and Bickell (some goals, some toughness). I stayed away from Clarkson and Horton only because I think they will get a ton of cash thrown at them

The cool thing is we have no clue on what Holland will do! He could surprise us all or totally s*** the bed...

If it come down to no trades and only UFA, I like the Ryder and Penner idea along with Weiss. But would most definitely require BOTH buyouts and a traded player(s) for a pick.

In this scenario, I bought out Bertuzzi and Sammy, and traded Q and Emmy at the draft for an extra pick or two....then sign Weiss, Penner and Ryder. Salaries are just a guess, they may get more....

(ya ya, I know, even though I cannot stand Franzen and wish upon wishes he gets dealt somewhere, I honestly don't think he will so I left him in this scenario.) Also note that there is nearly $6M available in cap space if those three guys cost a bit more than I put in...

Clarkson, Clowe, and Horton are the guys we should be targeting. Clarkson being the #1 option.

-Mason Raymond provides a lot of speed, but he's soft as butter and can't win any puck battles along the boards. Pass.

-Michael Ryder would be an interesting acquisition. He doesn't seem to stick with many teams for long, though, which is a concern. I'm on the fence with Ryder.

-I hate Ribeiro. He provides an offensive threat, but I question how much longer he'll be able to put up numbers. Diving piece of sheet. Pass.

-Guys like Iginla and Morrow would've been nice to have as top 6 forwards like 5 years ago, but they're both past their prime. I'd take either for the 3rd line, though.

-Pascal Dupuis is putting up the numbers he is because of his linemates in Pittsburgh. Also starting to age. Pass.

-Dustin Penner had the potential to be a power forward, but he's just not aggressive enough. On top of that, he's got the reputation for laziness. We don't need another Franzen. Pass.

-Bryan Bickell is an interesting option. Still young. Plays a relatively physical style. Seems to be picking up the offensive side of his game. Fake tough guy, but I wouldn't be opposed to him here.

Penner has scored less in the last 3 years put together than Franzen has this year. To call him another Franzen is ignorant.

Iginla for the 3rd line??? He would have been 3rd on the Wings in scoring (33 points), 3rd amongst Wings forwards in hits (65), the toughest fighter on the team and provide veteran leadership

Pretty sure Penner has been injured quite a bit in that timespan. Franzen has the potential to be a power forward. He decides to be a floating wuss, instead. Similar to Penner. Edited by Bring Back The Bruise Bros

So has Franzen. He has played in 117 games in those 3 years and scored 11 goals, Franzen scored 14 in 41 this year.. Franzen is one of our biggest and most physical forwards as well as our best goal scorer.

It's ridicKulous to say Penner is another Franzen.

It's too bad you can't appreciate being lucky (or are you a bandwagoner?) enough to be a fan of the best sports organization in North America(maybe the world) over the last 3 decades. But go ahead and continue to ***** and whine.

I love our team.

Penner is not another Franzen, but in NO WAY is Franzen our most physical forward...or even one of them...I love this team too, but I love it even more without Franzen, its time for a change. Every year I say maybe this year 08-09 Franzen will show up, every year I hope that playoff Franzen will show up...every year for the past 4 years, I have been disappointed in him more and more. I want him gone, but in reality it won't happen. Fine, it just gives me the whipping boy.

...and if Cleary is re-signed, I will absolutely barf....like totally!

edit: IMO, if Holland thinks that icing the same team next season is going to spell success in the East, he has got a rude awakening coming. The team was totally healthy in the pre-season, then the wheels fell off. If he doesn't think its not going to happen again, then he is crazy. Sammy, if retained, will not play more than 20 games. Bertuzzi will be lucky to get 25. Cola is bound to get injured again, as is Quincey. Franzen is always good for at least 10 with a bad back, and so is Zetterberg. Changes are needed. If he just re-signs Cleary, Filppula and doesn't buy anyone out, his team is doomed...

I really hope he makes some space (cap and on the roster) for a big physical guy who can score more than Abby. I would be thrilled with any of Iginla, Horton, Clarkson, Bickell or Dupuis. I too think we would be better by subtraction at forward.

I said Franzen is one of our most physical forwards he hits sometimes (even gets a few pretty good ones ) and battles in the corners and along the boards and goes to the net (we have scored at least a few goals these playoffs with him screening the goalie). If he were the beast he could be he would be more expensive and would risk even more injury problems than he already has had.

Zetterberg has only missed 4 games the last 3 years combined
