Yes, and none of those guys are going to re-sign either! I'm so glad we got a stab at Perry and getzlaf this year like everyone said. Oh wait...

Yeah, slight difference.... those were the ONLY two big names potentially hitting free agency.  There are 15+ forwards of significance, and some have already been talked about being moved, namely Vanek.

I didnt say others werent expendable or less expendable. I could tell you that, though. Brunner doesnt want to be here for a FAIR price (2.5 mil). Sionara, kid. Have fun in Leino Land.

I agree for the right price he should be here, I am not advocating him being over layed, I am just saying there are players more expendable than he is, which to me doesn't quite make him expendable, although we will be alright without him but he does add some extra goal scoring depth. Also I love fedorov. I will defend him till the day I die, so what if he wanted more money and went where someone was willing to pay him, that's the nhl

Whoa there, big guy. "Swiss crap?" Lolwhut? And I'm one of the biggest Fedorov apologists on here, along with a s*** ton of other people. This comment comes across as straight trolling, Axe. You're better than that. You may be crazy sometimes, but don't sink to troll level please.

Yeah, woah.  I'm with THIS comment, not the one he quote that completely slammed Brunner.  Brunner was like a $5 lottery ticket that paid our $250, and people have the nerve to curse their luck that they didn't win the $1 million jackpot.  He was paid virtually nothing last year, and yet people act like they were "ripped off" by him.  I don't get it.  Even if you factor in all the slumps and the defensive gaffes, that's probably a $2.5 to $3.5 million player there.  And he would have GOT that too if the Wings had been able to compliance buyout Sammy, or weren't still saddled with Tootoo's $1.9 AAV.  Brunner isn't a "kid", he's in his late 20's and has had almost a decade of professional hockey experience.  It's possible he's being unreasonable, but I don't blame him for wanting to get paid given that he probably expects to be a 25 to 30 goal scorer next year, and he may be right.

As for Fedorov, the point is well-taken (if not the anti-Brunner rhetoric).  Yzerman could barely get this team into the Playoffs for years until Fedorov (and Lidstrom) became Red Wings.  I'm in the even smaller camp of "2009 Hossa apologists", so I guess the pattern with me is that if you play hard as a Red Wing and aren't a total jerk about how you left, I don't carry the hate.

We're good, brother. Same page. For the record, I like Brunner and want him back. But only if he wants to be here.
Sorry, Fellas. I gst a little pissed when UNdeserving players turn down an offer to play for the Wings. It really sours me, as I would give up a ******** to play one game with Detroit.

Yes, I'm sure you and Brunner are in the exact same position and so he should give up anything you would just to play for Detroit.

You're conveniently overlooking the two consecutive seasons ('87 & '88) in which the Wings played Edmonton in the Campbell (Western) Conference Finals.

Every pro should pay in order to play for Detroit. I mean after all they don't have girlfriends, wives or families to support. It's not like being a pro is a full time job ...

I agree they should do what they feel most obligated to (family ties, money, city, favourite team etc...) but to say they won't be able to support their family on 2.5 million dollars a year is a bit far fetched my friend. Most people support families on 70 grand or less a year, I think he could scrape by with a few million, don't you?

Brunner has to do what's best for his career and his family.  I know most of us like to believe that the Red Wings are the only worthy franchise in the league, but there are other good organizations who will likely give him more playing time, etc.  He's not 21, he's a 27 year old rookie.  The window to make a decent living for these guys is small.  I mean seriously, if someone called you up and said, hey I'll triple your salary, give you a bigger role in the company and you'll get much better exposure than you would at your old company.  Would anyone here turn that down?  Doubt it.  But if you did take it, people making minimum wage would be calling you a greedy *******.  It's all perspective.

I like Brunner and it's going to be tough seeing him go somewhere else, but he has to do what's right for him financially at his age. With that said, Tatar will be a better replacement anyway imo. eh's a pretty cool guy, more gritty, goes to the net and doesn't afraid of anything. But seriously, i think we'll see more consistency out of Tatar and the third line will probably be better because of him.

this would be all well and good but don't you think if this was remotely trued he would of signed already? His agent screwed him making him think he was worth anywhere near 4mil a season. there is no one thats going to pay him that kind of money for a half of an nhl season that could very well of been a fluke like brunnstrom hence the reason i bet he hasn't been signed already.

Im not saying Brunner has to accept. Im saying that the Wings have replaced him with an upgrade and moved on. So no Detroit employee or fan has to be upset woth him being let go. Bye.

Brunners agent screwed him.  Inexperience by a rookie listening to his agent too much.

Its a real pity, now he is possibly going to play for a crap team. If they are smart, they will make a short contract and Brunner busts his balls to get a better contract with another team in two years (hopefully the Wings)

My wish: A healthy roster

Sure it is easier when it comes to millionaires but I just don't understand why Brunner should sign for undermarket-value? I know nobody wants to admit it, but the RedWings are behind the pack team, in a salary cap wolrd AND can't hand out creative contracts + 50 players limit --->handcuffed.

From Brunners pov, he has played here a few months and thats about it. He doesn't owe the Wings anything. Yes, he has chemistry with Zetterberg, the best ownership in the league but he can make more money elsewhere. As a 27 old rookie the time to make a big splash in the NHL is ticking for him, he knows that and I guess thiat's playing a huge part in his decision. He is not worth 4 m per right now no question but something around 3 - 3,5 is more realistic and to be honest should have been offered by the Wings.

However this story is paying out, I am will not hold it against him if he decides to sign elsewhere for more money or a longer terms, he doesn't owe the Wings and vise versa. I could see him joining the Senators and become Spezza s winger. The real surprise here is Nashville, they need scoring the guy is a pure goalsacorer and yet not even rumours about them trying to get him.

I agree.  I would love to see him return, and feel that Holland should have thrown a more convincing offer at him vice grab Alfie... or at least buy out Bert and put that money towards Brunner.  Just my opinion.  He owes the Wings nothing, and performed well.  I feel Holland may have taken his positive attitude for granted, and it was a gamble that could have been avoided.  The fact of the matter is, we are not privilaged enough to know truly how Brunner, his agent and Holland dealt with each other, and can only speculate.  Fair winds and following seas to Brunner.  He will be a force for whomever he plays for.

"We were one of the teams that had the least amount of fights last year. You don't want your best players fighting. But Brendan was certainly a physical presence. Playing on Pavel Datsyuk's line, he obviously created some space for Pavel. That's something we're going to have to monitor," said Ken Holland.

Ugh.

All the "we gave Sammy X and wont give Brunner X" comments aside... I don't think Brunner is worth 3.5 million at this point. Holland is not in the business of gambling. He probably wanted to give Brunner 2 years @ 2.5-3.0... and Brunner wouldn't bite. If my numbers are ball park true... I don't see that it's anything to get upset over and disparage Holland about.

so will Brunner come back with his tail between his legs if no offers are forthcoming? I can understand his situation, but maybe he could have signed a 1 year deal with Detroit at say $3m. Then if at the end of next season he has 70+pts in the bag then he would have more irons in the fire to work a better deal with Kenny.
I hope he doesn't do a Leino and fade away thou as he has some real talent to give the NHL, pity it wont be at the Joe, but it opens the door for someone else I guess.
