I know the simple answer to this is "watch it on CBC" but if you've got a dish, or even WOW the game is pretty much unavailable in HD.

Can anybody come up with the numbers that would prove pre-empting the most watched SCF in at least 17 years  would be a good choice for WDIV? NHL ratings are pretty easy to get, but I've been unable to unearth ratings for the fireworks.

Maybe its a numbers thing.  Target has a s***-ton of money, so maybe they just threw some of it the stations way to show their fireworks program instead.

Or maybe they just chose not to show hockey.  Lest we forget that just a couple games ago NBC chose to show reruns of law and order on their main channel instead of the Stanley Cup Finals?

I saw over the weekend that WDIV's broadcast of Game 6 would be shown on WADL-38 instead at the normal start time while the fireworks are shown on WDIV.  I'm not sure if that's offered in HD.

They most likely get some sort of sponsorship from Ford.

What a nice commitment. Show the 4th of July fireworks on June 24 and pre-empt the Cup winning game of the NHL playoffs. Sounds like a great Idea. Watch CBC. Always.
