8 Legged RedWing 367 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) No. Our "worst" team in 20 years was one goal worse than them. We have no rebuild years. Our scouting and drafting and player development is still the model way to run a franchise. Let these idiots write about and think whatever they want but the Wings aren't going anywhere any time soon. Hiei 192 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 So the new model franchise is to:Have a moderately successful team with 1 cup appearance Go into FULL SUCK mode for 15 years while the owner and his crony GMs make bonehead trade after bonehead trade to cut down payroll, thus resulting in a half-empty barn and a bunch of high round flopsWait for the owner to DIE Owner's son inherits and invests in team, that has some high draft picks on board and ready to go Win 2 cups with a coach that is floating by on the team's talent as opposed to actual coaching. 4 Rhah, 55fan, Rick D and 1 other reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 (edited) Of course having a piss poor owner, tanking for years and almost NO SUPPORT is for sure a model franchise. God I so hate the "new new" NHL wish owners like Illitch would be allowed to throw their wealth around, neither the Hawks the lockout co-responsible ***** named Jacobs would stand a chance against a loaded Wings team! So for all the Chicago "fans" who might now sho off.........get bent tanking suckers Thats why I was cheering for the Kings, sure they were bad too but didn't tank like crazy aka tankuins and blacktankers..so I respect the Kings but the Hawks *lol* hate hate hate thats all I can say to them. Guest DeGraa55 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Lol the wings sucked before our run. The real problem is its too early to say such a thing. A model franchise is someone who does it for more than five years. The wings are still considered as such. Just like teams like the Steelers and pats in football. Or bama. But all teams have down years so you guys really need to get over yourself its sickening. Just a complete embarrassment. 1 Uncle Danny reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Whatever to me Wings sucked before our run - in a thread called "Hawks new model franchise" implies 2 possibilities: 1. poster is in some sort part of the Wings organization hence the "our" 2. poster might be a Blackhawks fan that why I 've asked politely... It's true the Wings sucked beofre *their* run but at least they didn't tank on purpose like the Penguins or Blackhawks did.
legaleaglewingsfan 75 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 This was posted on NHL.com as a kind of sick joke right. Like it's their attempt at humor or a parody of some kind? I don't honestly believe they think that a team headed for salary cap hell is a model organization. Right?
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Yes, unfortunately, they are the new NHL model: mismanage your team, tank over and over again, stockpile high draft picks, move directly from worst to first, leap frogging teams that remain on the bubble at least trying to be competitive. In the meantime, the city that forgot you even existed will read on the 3rd page of the sports column that you won the Stanley Cup (whatever that is) and rush out celebrate you. Worked for the Penguins, worked for the Blackhawks, its helped teams like Boston, and even Washington looked like they were on a similar path. Soon the Oilers will get something right and climb back from obscurity after how many consecutive top-5 picks. Model franchise? Yes. Best run franchise? No. 1 55fan reacted to this
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 I guess it depends on what you call a model franchise. Every franchise has high points and low points. If you think about it, the Hawks fans have had to endure just as much turmoil as the long time Wings fans have. The Wings had their low point back from 67 to 83 when the Wings only made the playoffs 2 times. Bruce Norris really did run the team into the ground. It took Illitch years to dig out from that hole and get a cup contending team in Detroit. Even then, i twas a full 15 years before they won the cup. I wouldn't call Chicago a "model franchise" to be honest. They are on the upswing though with the ownership investing in the team, Bowman at the helm, and Joel is a great coach. IMHO, a model franchise is one that has had 20+ years of success. It has less to do with cup wins and more on player development, community service, making the playoffs, being profitable, and so on. The thing is that no franchise is a model franchise forever. Teams change hands. Ownership doesn't invest in the team like they used to. The focus of ownership shifts. I could go on and on here..... The point is that I consider the Wings to be a model franchise more than Chicago. It has nothing to do with their cup runs, but more with the years of success they have had. Just keep in mind that nothing is forever. In another 20 years, the Wings could be back to the "Dead Things" while Chicago has made the playoffs for 20+ consecutive seasons. Chicago would then be a model franchise. 2 b.shanafan14 and xtrememachine1 reacted to this

Being terrible for many years, accumulating high end draft picks and having some success doesn't exactly compared to being a Cup contender for over 20 years in a row. Its way too early to call Chicago a model franchise. Like you said, do it for 20 years, then you have something.
Rhah 195 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 and Joel is a great coach. Guy threw horseshoes at a dart board to set his lines throughout this whole offseason... he had no clue how to even strategize matchups until Babs schooled him.
xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted June 25, 2013 Guy threw horseshoes at a dart board to set his lines throughout this whole offseason... he had no clue how to even strategize matchups until Babs schooled him. Joel is a good coach in that he came up with a good system that works for the Hawks and their team to make them successful. He's not a good coach at making adjustments. He had no answer for what Babcock was doing and when he did change something, Babcock came right back and countered. 1 sjr2012 reacted to this
Redwings 1926 47 Report post Posted June 26, 2013 Time will tell, but it's starting to look that way. I know they had a lot of lean years and high draft picks, but you still have to have a competent front office, and with the way they bounced back from 2010, I'd say that they do. There's only 8 players on their current roster that were on that 2010 team. I hate to say it, but I think what also helped the Blackhawks' organization turn around was the passing of long time owner Bill Wirtz. When that happened, and his son Rocky took over, that organization seemed to experience quite a culture change from top to bottom. It was like watching someone flip a switch. Either way, it sure would be nice to see another Red Wings Blackhawks Stanley Cup final someday.
