Rage away I'd prefer he wasn't paid at all. He played one good series in the playoffs, and I believe 2 goals he scored were bounced off of him by Datsyuk. Cleary ******* sucks and certainly doesn't deserve to remain the same or even a $.2k raise, he deserves to have his ass sent to the Flames to fade away into nothing. Tell me he was the best option skating around out there with THAT. But no, he is durable. Effective? That's another argument. Good puck handler? Strong Skater? Sniper? Good defensively? Combined with his type of game being not being very pretty. Then once you become the whipping boy here it doesn't really matter what actually happens on the ice. Cleary was 2nd on the team in playoff scoring and people try to dismiss all his points. If it's so easy why couldn't Franzen, who's much bigger than Cleary and wasn't playing with a separated shoulder, manage to get to the front of the net "and have pucks hit him?" Or Flip for that matter? A big part of the answer is because Cleary is willing to do what Homer did. Pay the price to earn his spot in front of the net and stand there as someone rockets a slapshot at him. If you watch Mule, he often spins out of the way before the puck gets to him. As I said before, if Cleary is re-signed and he ends up playing a lot of minutes on the top 6 and PP, that's not his fault. That's Hollands. He's slow, he has trouble bending over to flip or move the puck, he falls easily, and he is prone to some frustrating mental gaffes. He still works as hard as he can, but that's just not enough anymore. When his talent and drive were coupled with a functioning body, he was an excellent player, but these days the will just doesn't have a way. I won't be sad to see him gone. I was a little bummed to see him go as I thought he was one of the surprising players in the playoffs relative to missing the whole year. I get why it went down, but it's too bad those injuries follow him around. Might've ended differently for him here. thegerkin 189 Report post Posted July 6, 2013 I don't think I necessarily said that Clears is anything above a 3rd liner at best (I'm too lazy to look back, correct me if I'm wrong) and I agree with some of the senior citizens comments lol. However, I personally think that intangibles that he is a respected veteran locker room voice, allegedly and his durability (I still think that this plays a big role for consistency, but I concede to the inability of 100% (65% - 85% max).) Cleary certainly plays an important all-around role even if he isn't 100% in any of them (especially his horrendous skating "ability" lol.) It appears that a lot of hate comes from either the prospect of him re-signing or if he is re-signed the terms would be unexceptable. I guess it's just my opinion as a huge fan of the Red Wing.
