Yeah I was gonna say... 11 seasons over 60 points, 10 seasons over 70 points, 4 seasons over 80 points. Alf was unquestionably an elite forward and a ppg player 4 seasons ago and long before. Still capable of providing some value even at age 40.

Most notably, shows up in the playoffs.

And at 40, his 26 points this past season would have tied him w/ Brunner for the 4th highest scoring forward on the team with a fairly sizable drop to the next in line which was Flip with 17.

Edit: That said, I really don't see him playing anywhere other than with the Sens.

I really don't want alfie. Purely because he's 40 and I'd rather youth / he retire a senator

For what its worth:

Hockey Buzz Eklund @Eklund 1m

Crazy! I was just told Zet feels confident that Alfredsson could be headed to the Wings.

Its eklund.  And perhaps we should look at what he's actually said.  Zetterberg feels confident Alfie COULD be headed to the Wings.  He could be headed to Boston or Ottawa, too.

I won't give it a second thought until someone else mentions it.

So if he leaves the team he was on for years and years and years to come here and he wins a cup with us, do we have to retire his number, or is that just done by teams that are desperate to have something hanging from the rafters?

Put him with Samuelson and Franzen... make a good 4th line!

Playing on Pavel Datsyuk's line, he obviously created some space for Pavel. That's something we're going to have to monitor," said Ken Holland.

This - and I think we shouldn't worry too much about his age.  Holland could see him as a short-term replacement for Fil (or Brunner, god forbid) somewhere in the top 6.  It will be a 1 year deal that gives guys like Nyquist and Tatar one more year on the 3rd.

What is it with the Wings and their obsession with old players past their prime? They are the equivalent of hockey MILFs. We have plenty of veteran leadership in Hank and Dats and they can actually still play! Out with the old, in with the new.

Alfie is the perfect 1-year insurance plan for next season.  This years' UFA class is weak, and guys are going to get long, outrageous contracts.  I think Holland is doing the right thing going after guy who can still contribute for 1 year.  Low, low risk here guys.

It's official the Detroit Red Wings have signed Daniel Alfredsson.

Must just be a verbal agreement since he can't sign until after 12
