Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

Right but Abby was on pace for 6 assists, well behind Alfie who was on pace for 32!

Alfie is not one dimensional, he will play very good defense, will go to the net, will set up other players as well.

And that was with Abby playing minutes with Datsyuk, remember Corey Perry giving Abby crap about his totals while playing with Dats?

You think Abby should be playing 1st line minutes over Alfie? Really?

Doesn't really matter as they will probably be on the same line as Alfie is RW and Abby is LW.

I believe it was Shane Doan giving Abby crap. Could be wrong tho...

Where does Bert and Sammy fit into this team?

The press box?

Seriously though, they need to buy out one and hope the other can be on LTIR.

Alfredsson can score 30 goals still at 40 years old, he's signed for 1 year and then we'll be able to bring up the next kid that's ready. I love the signing and give Kenny 100% props on the signing.

Nope. I hope that answers your question.

I don't know why there is so much complaining. There is virtually no risk in a one year deal. If it doesn't work out, he can sit and someone else can play and he is gone next year.

Plus we just swiped a captain and an alternate captain from two of our new division rivals who have played their entire careers in the east where we will be now. It's a win win.

Money should have been spent to get tougher or to resign Brunner

That just seems like a weird combination of wishes, get tougher or sign a somewhat soft Euro.

And my point would be that it is an organizational decision.

Nill is in a second or third tier hockey market, with very little pressure to win a cup.

Holland is in a top tier hockey market that looks at everyone of his moves under a microscope.

Holland is in an organization that has a long standing tradition of how they treat their players, Nill is given the keys to the castle and allowed to do what he wants.

He made one move, and now we are saying that his trait is to be more aggressive.

Again lets give him a year or two in Dallas before we anoint him the better GM, as my original post was in reply to some one saying we let the wrong GM leave!

Detroit is a second tier hockey market. Hockey is at best the #3 sport here. There is very little pressure to win in Detroit in comparison to other markets like those in Canada. Do you know for a fact that Nill doesn't have to consult anyone or that Holland does? It's speculation on your part. Nill made one move, but Holland has made (or not made) many. He has a history and an MO that's abundantly clear.

Signing an over 40 player as a depth guy or to boost a third or fourth line like the Wings did with Hull and Robitaille, that's one thing. But as a top 6 guy? I don't care for it. I don't feel like the Wings are a player or two away from the Cup.

Weiss? Is he that much of an upgrade? He hardly played last year and has had a history of injuries. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not all that crazy about the moves today (other than not brining back Cleary if that's the case)

Agreed and I was hoping to get tougher but given a 40 year old soft euro for 1 year at the expense of a 27 year old soft euro for multiple years I'd have gone with Brunner. Would have loved to see what he could achieve in a full season plus he was a key piece on a dominant 3rd line... I LOVE that 3rd line!!!!!

Weiss averages 74 games a season, and that is also after only playing 17 last year.

He is a high 50 to low 60 point per season player.

Flip just got more money than Weiss, Weiss has a better track record and stats.

Weiss played in a horrible Florida organization with very little help.

Hockey may be the third sport in Det, but it is still a top tier hockey market, if Det is a second tier market than there are maybe 2 top tier market teams.

Boston is a fair weather fan market, where were all the Pitt fans 10 years ago, same with CHI.

Other than Mon what hockey market is more under a microscope than Det?

Van? nope, Tor? Nope. Ott? nope. Win? Nope.

If Alfie replace Cleary, upgrade.

If Alfie replaces Abby who replaces Cleary, Upgrade!

Weiss replaces Flip, Upgrade!

I am not assuming anyone makes the decisions I am asking how it is that people are able to say Nill is responsible for the good that came to Det and Holland is responsible for the bad.

And how it is that Nill can be a savior when he has made limited trades.

Did signing Dan Ellis make him the GM of the year?

I LOVE that 3rd line!!!!!

THIS!

Although I am looking forward to a Nyquist Andersson Tatar Line up!

one of my all time favorite players and one I dreamt of seeing with Winged Wheel among all our great Swedes.

$5.5M sounds heavy but this is money Wings pay not only for on ice point production but for more veteran leadership

and cup hunger. I hope wee see Ray Bourque or Dave Andreychuk like story in 2014...

can't wait to see Alfie debut in Motown... välkommen!
