Congrats on keeping to your plan of making the team bigger, younger,  and increasing scoring by signing a 5'11 guy who got .24 ppg last year to a 4.9 5 year deal that will take a roster spot from one of the kids going forward.

Holland sure is doing a great job.  Good show old boy.

What a s***ty, s***ty, s***ty job he has done the last three years. If Jim Nill was the reason we draft well, this team is going to be defunct in five years.

I'm on board with the people aligning with this style of thinking.  I just don't understand how you give nearly $5M to a guy that has only performed exceptionally well when flanked by really good wingers (Booth/Horton).  Even then, he isn't much of a two-way player, and isn't very good in the faceoff circle (although, I will admit, he's finally reached 50% over the past two years).  I suppose I would be okay with the money if it was over three years and not five, but I think this signing will turn out to be a move that fans point back to in a couple of years and wonder why the Red Wings jumped the gun.

I may very well be wrong. In fact, as a fan of the team, I WANT to be wrong.  But when I hang up the sweater and look at this objectively... I think it has all of the makings of the subject featured in another popular thread: an overreaction.  I think the Red Wings jumped the gun and way overpaid in both years and dollars for a guy in a limited pool.  If it was $5.9 over two years... fine. But $4.9 over 5?  Not a fan.

Babcock said as of now Helm is 3rd-line C and Andersson is slotted to be 4th line C. Weiss at No. 2. Datsyuk with Zetterberg on top line.

Loving this. Hope Helm can get healthy because that is great depth down the middle. Abby and Z can also play center.

Love it. That's exactly what I imagine everyone wants to hear.

No complaints on Weiss, will be interesting to follow next season for sure. Should be a definite upgrade from Filppula.

There will be more than 2.3 million. The wings have trade a couple forwards after today's signings. Trade for picks = cap space

Exactly.  Kenny Holland said he was going to sign big forwards at the draft.  He did.

He said he was going to try and get a 2nd line centre and was looking at top 6 guys.  He followed through.

He said he was going to have to move some pieces around with trades and that guys that were assured spots on the Wings next year are Tatar, Nyquist, Smith, Andersson and Lashoff I believe.  He's followed through on everything else and has been patient, unlike some GM's and has been responsible with a cap that's gone down 6 million.

2 best GM's of the summer are Kenny Holland and Kekaloopydoo from the BJ's.

Forgot Abby, pretty sure he makes the top 12. Prob in Brunner's spot because I don't think he's going to be back

Props to Holland.

I am his biggest critic. But he is doing SOMETHING this offseason that has a chance to help us. I could see Sammy and Tootoo were bad signings a mile away. I thought Colo was ok, but DeKeyser, Smith, and Kindl emerging made that one bad too.

Anyway, good job Kenny. I throw my hat, because you just turned a trick = DeKeyser, Alfredsson, Weiss.

tootoo was not a bad signing at all. i would love to see why so many think so. specially going to the east now.

you thought tootoo was signed on to be our scorer for the playoffs? He was signed for the grit and toughness and thats what he brings every game. for the life of me of don't get why come game 5 in the hawks series babs didn't put him in after shaw and those goons did what they did to the wings. tootoo is nothing but heart.

Some guys gotta eat a little s*** during the season so other guys have gas left in the tank for the playoffs.

Dont get me wrong, because I want to see some tougher guys in there too. But if a guy sits on the bench every playoff game, he's not worth 2 mil a season.

In our system, aren't most of our top forward prospects aside from Jarnkrok who's likely 3 years away wingers??

Nyquist, Tatar, Frk, Jurco, Tvrdon, Mantha, Pulkkinen, etc.

Those guys need quality centremen to play around, we have 5 quality centremen with Z on Dats' wing and Weiss, Helm and Andersson to follow.  And if Helm is ??? then Andersson moves up and Emmerton fills the 4th centre role admirably.

So we have really good 2-way guys at C and a buttload of really talented and some with really good size wing prospects.  I'm liking what's going on here.  And Alfie is signed for 1 year to score 30 goals on Dats' wing hopefully and then his spot should be up for grabs.
