tootoo was not a bad signing at all. i would love to see why so many think so. specially going to the east now.

Not trying to hate on you or start an arguement....but that saying "going to the east now" is overblown.
Detroit is going to do MUCH better in the East. I promise you.

In our system, aren't most of our top forward prospects aside from Jarnkrok who's likely 3 years away wingers??

Nyquist, Tatar, Frk, Jurco, Tvrdon, Mantha, Pulkkinen, etc.

Those guys need quality centremen to play around, we have 5 quality centremen with Z on Dats' wing and Weiss, Helm and Andersson to follow.  And if Helm is ??? then Andersson moves up and Emmerton fills the 4th centre role admirably.

So we have really good 2-way guys at C and a buttload of really talented and some with really good size wing prospects.  I'm liking what's going on here.  And Alfie is signed for 1 year to score 30 goals on Dats' wing hopefully and then his spot should be up for grabs.

How the fuss is Jarnkrok 3 years away? Dude is one of the best players in the SEL and has been for years. I think he plays one year, two tops, in GR. Then we still have Datsyuk, Weiss, and Andersson under contract...I think we're straight.

Weiss is a legit 2C. Fil was a borderline 2C but a good top 6 LW as well. We couldnt really throw Z and Dats together wothout giving up 2C to fil who isnt a threat at centre. Weiss allows us to do this all day. He is also great insurance if helm goes down or isnt ready. Weiss also has the ability to throw the body around too which fil didnt do much. The move the LW will increase Z's longevity.

I would like to see Franzen bought out next year with oir second amnesty if he doesnt perform this year as his contract will look bad in a couple years as he ages.

Jarn is ready next year but can start at RW. I think that we can always move a C if need be as andersson, weiss, helm dont have any trade restrictions.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?

Babcock said as of now Helm is 3rd-line C and Andersson is slotted to be 4th line C. Weiss at No. 2. Datsyuk with Zetterberg on top line.

Loving this. Hope Helm can get healthy because that is great depth down the middle. Abby and Z can also play center.

Wonder which line Alfie will play on?

With Dats, and Hank, or with Weiss?

I think that eventually dats and Z will be split up again with this lineup. I love them playing together but we would essentially have two top lines with them split up.

Holland had mentioned playing Weiss and Alfie together. The quote was something alon the lines of Stephen puts the puck in the net and alfie is a great playmaker who can pass it to him. Something to that effect

Ya I'm thinking something along the lines of...

Z-dats- Abby
Mule-Weiss- alfy
Nyq- helm- Tatar

Then a 4th with Anderson and who knows exactly we have a lot of forwards. Want brunner to stay so badly

Lateral move. Little expensive for my taste but its nice to see Holland not sitting on his hands.

I didn't think it was possible for Detroit to get smaller...

I was wrong.

No Bobby Ryan. No David Clarkson. No Nathan Horton. No Vinny Lecavalier.

Meh.

I guess we'll wait and see...

The best part is that Helm is now apparently healthy, as per Helene St. James' twitter:

Apologies: Ken Holland said Darren Helm is better, and Red Wings expect (not except) him at development camp next week.

I'd rather have Weiss for five years.

Weiss is an improvement over Filppula, but I'd rather have had Lecavalier for a similar price.

Brunner is definitely an improvement over Alfredsson.  Alfie is 40.  Brunner is much younger.  You guys are thinking short term if you'd rather have Alfie.  As in "really" short term.  Guy might retire after the season.

I also wanted us to get a little bigger and gritter to play against.  Not sure how this accomplishes that.

Yeah, Holland doesn't seem to like big, gritty forwards.  Even on the checking lines, let alone the top two lines.

I think it's important to have balance.   We have too many vanilla midgets on the roster.

I guess one thing that's interesting is didn't Lecavalier sign for 5 years @ $22.5 mill? I think he's only 3 years older than Weiss, and much bigger.

Yep.  I'd rather have Vinny than Weiss, for these prices.

It's being reported that Alfie will be Franzen and Weiss on the 2nd line and Abby will remain on the first line with Zett and Pasha.
