Right. Whoever said Silfverberg is "next to nothing" doesn't follow hockey close enough. Noesen isn't a chump in his own right. That first round pick could easily be 15-20 too.

Let's compare Weiss to what we couldve got.

Weiss 24.5m 5 years. What's are better deals? Vinny, clarkson, fil, and even clowe may be a better deal considering we could of used his size.

All signing Weiss tells me is helm will be on litr all year. We didn't need a bottom 6 center we needed a top 6 winger. It says a lot when your second line of franzen Weiss and alfie and Alfie is the best on that line....

I think the OP was stuck in the mindset that anything outside of a tremendous trade would make this team worse as it's a theory he had brought up in other threads and now it's an effort to gain further justification even though this team improved today. Face the facts that Filppula wanted a contract based off of the one good season he did have even though he proved the following year that he could not remain consistent and was not any kind of force in the playoffs. It was an intelligent decision to let him walk which is a positive.

We'll let this upcoming season speak for itself, we made the playoffs by winning the final regular season game this year, so if we miss playoffs this upcoming season then sure, the moves today damaged this team. When we do make the playoffs though, which we will, maybe a choice few that post here can step back a bit and realize maybe, just maybe, Kenny Holland knows what he's doing and made the right decisions today.

So to answer the question, yeah i'm pretty content with what went down today. Losing Brunner hurts, losing Flip not so much, but gaining Alf and Weiss is definitely a positive in my opinion. And the offseason isn't over yet either who knows what else is in store.

I've been a critic of Holland over the past few days and I'm 50/50 today. I still for some unknown reason am hearing interest in Cleary and Morrow for some reason which scares me. Losing Brunner still hurts

but I keep hearing the Tatar argument which resonates with me. I still think we need to get a trade or two in place to lose the dead weight which will be riding the pine all year and perhaps solidify the defense

with one more solid name. I am glad Holland didn't stand pat today though, that is a positive.

I don't think so. And even so, Nyquist is a very good player and I believe will be a big part of our future. I believe Silfverberg was more highly regarded than Nyquist in the hockey community. Noesen may well have been Sproul/Ouellett/Jurco for us...and that would not have been worth it. Would it have been nice to get Ryan? Sure. That price is too high for us though. In three years Nyquist may produce at the same rate as Ryan and from what I've seen, I think Nyquist has more compete level.

But if everyone is healthy, do Andersson, tatar, and Nyquist even see the ice? If you are going to play those 3, then who of the pricey vets sit, and why are they on the team?

There are rumors about us trying to get Morrow-who is 34.

I think it's all pretty much a wash. You just don't know what you're going to get with a 40 year old who is changing cities,(and countries) after 17 years having to uproot his family and all that. Weiss was out injured most of the season last year. Will he produce as much here? Remains to be seen. I just don't feel like this is like 2002 or 2008 where we had a good solid core and needed to add depth players. While the price might have been high for Ryan, I feel like it's what the Wings needed. A right handed shot and pure goal scorer with some size and only 26 at a relatively reasonable cap hit. I'm kind of left with a meh feeling. I don't think the team is substantially better or worse.

Assuming they keep Tatar on the top line in Grand Rapids... I'd rather see him get top minutes there and solidify is game than to play third-line minutes in Detroit... So here's the deal, I've been camping all week and have no idea what lead up to all this. Why no Sammy buyout? Since when were the Wings interested in Alfie and why? Has Brunner signed somewhere else or is he just taking his time? What's the news on the RFAs? Why aren't they signed?

All I know is that we've got 2 goalies, 7 defensemen, and 42,000 forwards. Something's got to give right?
