Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 Lots of stories say that barring a set back he will be ready. And the article linked earlier was a little more cloudy. Helm might be ready by the season opener, he might not be. And I just realized I worded my previous post wrong. I meant to say "if no trades, and if Helm isn't ready to go, he'll be LTIR'd, yadda yadda yadda". Sorry for the confusion. That's what I get for trying to make a coherent point in the forums on my iPhone...
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 I recently re-watched this on youtube the other day: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2k3qEnTlz8 It's been so long he's been out, I forgot what a force of a defensive center he was developing into. I hope he can get back to 100% and back to playing to his capability, his hands may never be the greatest, but with his drive, fire for the game and speed he brings, I know he'll add a ton to our current line-up. 1 Din758 reacted to this

RusDRW 155 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 I also remeber his goal in that fantastic game 7 against Anaheim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scVutse_U2c hope for 100% recovery, however, as time goes on and he still expierences pain, it becomes more and more unlikely

Euro_Twins 4,476 Report post Posted August 30, 2013 "Encouraging": Is it encouraging? Encouraging in the sense that he hasn't experienced any set backs and he is mostly not experiencing back pain.

Euro_Twins 4,476 Report post Posted August 31, 2013 what a player, cant believe how much i miss him. whole different team with this 1 guy. People underestimate his value because he isn't an all star or a 20+ goal scorer. But he essentially is the heart and soul of our team
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) But he essentially is the heart and soul of our team I've got mad man-boner-love for Helm. But Zetterberg hasthis title locked up IMO. Edited August 31, 2013 by rick zombo
HelmFan 84 Report post Posted August 31, 2013 (edited) might not be the "heart and soul" but he's definitely the MVP of the bottom 6. He carries them like Datsyuk carries the top 6. Edited August 31, 2013 by HelmFan
MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted September 3, 2013 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/09/red_wings_coach_mike_babcock_e_1.html Helm, who has been battling back issues for the past eight months, has been skating regularly for a couple of weeks. Babcock said he “absolutely'' expects the third-line center to be ready for the start of training camp, Sept. 12 at Centre I.C.E. in Traverse City. “I didn't see him today, so he must be doing really good,'' Babcock said. “He had another day off, I would assume. Things are going good for him. He must be ready to go.'' 1 Euro_Twins reacted to this
Euro_Twins 4,476 Report post Posted September 4, 2013 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/09/red_wings_coach_mike_babcock_e_1.html this is absolutely %110 encouraging news, I can't wait to see helm score 1 breakaway goal on 43 attempts this year
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Attempt to just lower expectations or really a concern? Helm admits to only being partially pain free: http://www.freep.com/article/20130904/SPORTS05/309040113

Dave 324 Report post Posted September 5, 2013 Helm's played, what, 1 game in over a year and half? I hate to say it, but I don't think he's going to hit NHL ice again.

MidMichSteve 1,115 Report post Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) Puckloo39 told me about this LINK. Asked if he was pain free he said, “Fairly.” Helm did say he’s unable to lift like he has been able to in the past and that’s a level he needs to come close to before returning to the ice.“I’m still a bit away from (squats),” Helm said. “That’s one thing I do want to overcome before I start playing again. I want to be able to do the stuff I used to do, maybe not to the extreme that I used to do, but I still want to be able to do some fairly heavy lifting. I’m not at that point yet.” He doesn't sound too sure to me. Edited September 9, 2013 by MidMichSteve
Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) I'll be amazed if he's ready to go by, what is it, 10/2? That's less than a month away! Not complaining or anything, just saying. I guess it all comes down to training camp, and how he handles the physicality. Edited September 9, 2013 by Dabura
amato 3,210 Report post Posted September 9, 2013 Puckloo39 told me about this LINK. He doesn't sound too sure to me. Slightly upsetting news indeed but, I don't want helm back unless he's 100%. No need to rush

Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted September 9, 2013 My god, can this guy catch a break? Looks like him being on LTIR is part of the equation for getting two bodies off the team. I imagine that waiving Eaves will be the other half, since Emmerton is going to be used as that 4th C now.
