Devastating, he's my favorite player behind Datsyuk.

He has been my favorite Wing right behind Dats as well...

Unfortunate news however it's not back related so that is good news.

Helm skating today per Khan. Seems the Saturday return may still be up in the air.

its time for Helm to get one of those special jobs in the Wings organization that all players get who retire or cant play anymore. he can be Jiri Fishers assistant

If it devastates us this much, imagine what Helm is feeling.

Potentially good news. Would be so much better if his first game is in detroit the whole crowd will go mental.

Go mental??

I don't think many of the average fans would remember who he is??  I'd have to explain to everyone sitting around me that this is the guy that has played 69 games for us since 2011-2012 and scored one playoff goal for us.  We here on LGW definitely know who he is, average "John Q Fan" probably does remember his name and him playing, but that's about it.  Let's not over-blow his good, but short, injury riddled, "legacy".

True story. I've mentioned him returning to a few people I'd consider "average fans" and most forgot we still had him.... I'm sure helm will remind them all soon enough ;)

Datsyukian

Dat·syu·ki·an [dat-soo-kee-uh n]

adjective

          1. When your moves are so amazing and beyond reason, the only way to describe them is "datsyukian."

My younger brother has an extremely casual interest in the Wings. His favorite player is Helm. Actually, his favorite player is probably Datsyuk. But he once told me it's Helm, which I thought was awesome.

He nailed it:

"Soooo fast! And he hits everyone!"

This isn't Helm related but your post reminded me of a similar instance with my father who's also very, very casual. To this day I think the only sports players he knows by name are Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, Barry Bonds, Miguel Cabrera and... Drew Miller.

Helm and miller could be a deadly penalty kill duo. A couple more setbacks for Helm and I'm going to stop expecting him to play again

I read in an article, I think on freep.com that he feels ready to play, and he's hoping to play this weekend.

They're putting Ericsson on ltir to make room for helm.
They expect him saturday barring any setbacks.

Please play or something. He's doubtful to be in game shape after all this time. He was a fast skater with nice energy and an excellent penalty killer but I think we are gonna need a lot more than just him coming back to get back on track. I like Helm but he's not an All Star or anything like that. We can be a good team with or without him.
