Mike Ramsey?

"The more I know about people - the better I like my dog." - Mark Twain

"A wise man once told me, ‘Don’t argue with fools. Cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who'." Jay Z, Takeover

"When I was looking for a captain, I wanted a guy with the Red Wings crest tattooed on his chest," said former Detroit coach Jacques Demers, who named Yzerman captain in 1986. "Steve Yzerman was that guy."

“Told him if he wasn't ultra-competitive he couldn't come here. If he didn't bring it every day he couldn't come here, because he was going to hate it if he didn't, dislike the coach and dislike playing here.
“It's real straightforward. If you don't do it right, you're not happy here." Babcock

Before this devolves into a thread of "can I remember everyone who wore #15 for the Wings?", you can find all of 'em here:

http://www.hockey-re...ET/numbers.html

Back on topic, it should be automatic that Aflie gets #11.  As of right now, Cleary isn't a member of the Wings being a UFA & has no claim to the number in my opinion.

Money on the Board 2014: $5 per series, $5 per sweep, $5 per Kronwalling, $10 per Marchand Kronwalling, $1 per Zetterberg game, $1 per 2013 Calder Cup roster player goal

Isn't it customary to give the number to the guy who has been in the league longer?

It's looking less and less like Cleary will be back, so it likely won't be an issue anyway.

Money on the board:  Current total: $6

$1 for a goal by any current Wing after whom I have named a hamster.  An additional $5 for a series-clinching goal scored by any current Wing after whom I have named a hamster. $5 if the other team fails to score against a current Wing goalie after whom I have named a hamster.

Hamsters I have had:  (current Wings highlighted)

Henrik Pavel Tomas Nicklas Dominik

Niklas Matthew Daniel Robert

Johan Andreas Valtteri Jonathan

Andrew Patrick Ian Todd

Jordin Damien Gustav James

Cleary should not be back so Alfie should have no conflict in getting 11.

Yeah, this should end up a non-issue.

PS - Looking at that link, if you buy a #17 Howe jersey does that make you the ultimate hipster?

No but if you get a #8 Syd Howe Jersey you are.

Oh this young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada and that country's refusal to accept him, well, I guess that's more than most 21-year-olds can handle... Ogie Ogilthorpe!

The Red Wings official list of numbers from their website, though it's a few seasons out of date (doesn't have Quincey in #27, Goose at #14, etc).

Please no on Cleary....I get all happy when I read that quote from Kenny, but I just know something is going to happen and they trade 3 forwards to allow him to come back....i just know it. Someone sign him already!!

They should have retired 11 after Ted Speers wore it.

Detroit would like to welcome the Eastern Conference

Seems to me that Johan Garpenlov wore number 15.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Cleary is not currently a Red Wing, Dan has no right to the number at this time.

Now of you said Alredo can't have Yzerman's number, then the vast majority would agree

They gave shanny's number away pretty fast, and that's shanny we're talking about. Just saying. Same with malts and Stuart. I would be surprised if alfredsson didn't get 11.
