How much do the Wings need another defenseman?

I think we've established he had a bad season. A few things, though:


- The Rangers, as a team, sucked. Really, really sucked. (Was it Tortorella? Was it some kind of locker room karma job? I dunno.)


- Players have off-years.


(- ....And sometimes those off-years make them more, shall we say, tradable.)


- I believe he would be great as a Wing. We need a Dan Girardi, IMHO.


The Rangers, as a team, made it to the 2nd round. They were one of only eight teams to do so. If that's a team that really, really sucks, then your standards are very, very high.


As for Girardi's trade value, whatever it may be: unless Glen Sather is willing to give Girardi up in exchange for spare parts, the Wings haven't the cap space or the roster space to obtain him.

So you're saying that young players don't improve from one year to the next?

I'd love to see how the addition of dekeyser for a full season changes things, and if Smith can improve that would be great! Kindl finally stepped it up last year and hopefully he can improve on that this year.
