Brunner scored three hat tricks tonight.

I believe it's called the "Ovechtrick".  Look it up.  :nono:

Like I have said before I wish him well, he doesn't owe the DetroitRedWings anything nor do they. That being said I was one of the few people who wanted him back, his scoring-touch would have helped this team out.

Brunner just scored a nice goal. EPIC FAIL signing Alfy and letting Brunner go.

I agree we will miss him. But people you need to realize, we wanted him back! We offered 2 and 3 year deals, which he turned down, we didn't pick alfie over him, he decided to leave, we had to do what was necessary in the FA market.

Also, I wouldn't say he scored an EPIC goal, it was a nice shot, but not anything to go insane over. Also it was on Labarbera, may as well have scored it on Rick DiPietro

They just said Brunner has 3 of the Devil's 5 goals this year.

Brunner just scored a nice goal. EPIC FAIL signing Alfy and letting Brunner go.

Yeah I know if only Kenny had offered him a deal before the trade deadline, maybe even two offers and one of them being the exact offer he ended signing with NJ.

Then it would be EPIC WIN!

In "Reality Land" the nose turned down the offers he got from the Wings to test free agency, oh but don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant!

I wish we had signed Brunner, but that's a bit premature.. 79 games to go. Besides like mentioned we offered him a deal, and most likely if he had accepted Cleary would have been the odd man out not Alfie.

If he keeps scoring like this, he'll have every team's best guys on him every shift of every game. If he can contine to score through all that, then I'll say we lost out on a real gem.

And after 2 games he's on 3rd line again despite scoring. He was wrong for rejecting the Wings offers and he'll realise it sooner than later.

NOW they have.  At the time Brunner scored goal 2 in last night's game they had only scored 5 goals....they have currently scored 7 goals this season in 3 games.

I like Brunner and think he could've been a nice addition here, but here's a pretty good example of why he would not be guaranteed a spot in the top 6.  It is something he could've worked his way up to, but he's not defensively responsible enough at the moment to earn that ice time.  At least not under Babcock.

(it's a blog that occasionally picks a play and gives a good analysis of what happened and where the breakdowns occurred).

My favorite part is this summation of what it means to be defensively responsible:

Defensive responsibility is about the willingness to put aside the 5% opportunity for a great offensive chance to stop the 25% chance you’re going to be counted on to stop an opportunity from happening on your own net.

WOW, that was an egregious disregard for defense. I don't think he'd have dared do that under Babcock.

Good article. I wonder how much of Brunner's lack of defensive awareness comes from not having played defensively responsible hockey before, and how much of it is him wanting to be a hero. Game's tied, is he smelling the glory of the clutch GAG, or is it just a derp? I've heard the impression of him in Switzerland was that he was a prima donna, but I never got that impression of him here. Until the whole "not signing because he was demanding a top six spot" debacle, anyway. Who knows if there was more to it...?

Did you not see Franzen on the PK on Saturday?

"If I can be totally honest, it's not a lot of guys you get impressed by. Actually, it's no one else but him. From the bench, to see what move he makes -- you're like, 'I wish I could do that.' Sometimes you sit on the bench and just think, 'wow,' and you look over to the other bench and they sit there and shake their heads, too. He has great, great skills. I'm probably not going to play with another player who has the kind of skills he has." Mikael Samuelsson on Pavel Datsyuk
