Hit Stat Idea

I think the NHL shoild measure hits on a 1 to 5 scale and have a category called HP (Hit Points) that more clearly shows the player's overall ruggedness. To me, (1) Kronwalling is worth more than (4) Franzenings, but the stat sheets have no way of displaying that as it stands now.

It makes sense, but it would be very subjective, and not every hit from the "big guns" is like a freight train. I could see the scorers keeping track of the stat being huge homers and not crediting the away team fairly.

And when pavel datsyuk beats 3+ players and scores it should count as two goals.

In all honesty I like the idea, but imagine how hard it would be to gauge that.

If zdeno chara hits st. Louis its gonna look like a huge hit, but imagine an average chara on myers hit.

Yup. Subjective stats are probably not a good idea. Bit hits themselves are subjective, so what the hey.

Honestly I'd rather see a stat line on possible dangerous hits, you left your feet and didn't get called for it, or you blatantly hit someone's head but no one caught it.

Like webers play on z, not to beat a dead horse but honestly no call on that?

Hits are already a stat that aren't exactly accurately tallied, to add a rating scale to the mix would be bad, Crosby would get all 5's lol

My biggest qualm would be that the most effective hits aren't necessarily the most bone-crunching, so some player who consistently scores well on the hit-point scale may give the illusion that he is a more effective hitter than someone who may not be as violent, but provides hits that are more crucial to the game. I'm not sure that there would be any real value in this kind of statistic other than for fantasy hockey.

I was going to say the same thing. I honestly believe a lot of players that throw the biggest hits, really aren't the most effective hitters out there.

The other point, as already mentioned though, is that hit stats are very flawed as it is, to the point that I pretty much ignore them (they are not accurate at all).
