rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Stu's first game this season and he earns himself a hearing. They must be seeing something that I don't, because I don't see this as a hit to the head. Marginally, but not hearing-worthy. San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart will have a hearing Wednesday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an incident during a game Tuesday night against the New York Rangers at SAP Center. At 2:32 of the first period, Stuart was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing after a hit on New York forward Rick Nash.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 Here's a somewhat better angle. Looks like his shoulder caught Nash in the jaw. He got a fair amount of body but he does an upward motion that makes it look not great. And a star player got injured, so he's probably gonna get some games. sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 I always hate when things that were originally non calls like this, are all of the sudden called like 20 seconds after the fact and only when they think someone may have got injured. Just watch that first video and see how super late of a call it was. 2 LidsFan and Wingsfan72 reacted to this

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 A hit that results in an injury is not dirty by default. Unbelievable. 2 Wingsfan72 and LidsFan reacted to this

kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted October 9, 2013 How is that hit to Nash's head any worse than this hit Nash put on Kopecky and didn't get a suspension? 3 thegerkin, Nev and Wingsfan72 reacted to this
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Man. Is it just me, or does no one on the ice seem to care that Kopecky got blind-sided by Nash? It almost looks like the linesman wanted to high five him. LOL
thegerkin 189 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Nash even left the ice before hitting Kopecky. Ahhh, the beauty of double-standards... 1 Wingsfan72 reacted to this

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Heard he got 3 games. For unnecessary rising upwards, extension outwards...the dreaded, much frowned-upon "boner check." 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Any suspension for that hit is ridiculous. Anyone else outraged by this? I wouldn't say outraged, but it's most definitely a bad call. A fine, at most, and only because he came a pretty long way to deliver a hit which was, at worst, borderline.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) I feel like there's a magic 8 ball in Shanny's desk and he trusts it's judgement.Or the magic Conch Shell.I miss Stuart. It's weird how sometimes things (or in this case, players) aren't really appreciated until they're gone. kipwinger 8,524 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Just watched Shanny's video explanation of the hit. The suspension happened because Stuart extended "upward and outward" on the hit, rather than hitting Nash squarely through the shoulder or body. Don't know that I agree it's suspension worthy, but figured I'd pass the info along in any case.
P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 I've always liked Shanahan and I hate it that he took this job as it's such a thankless one. There must lots of pressure coming from all sides and no matter what he does there will always be lots of complaining. I hope he's mentally tough enough. 2 fixxxer and haroldsnepsts reacted to this
fixxxer 11 Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Ya don't agree with this call at all either. Stuart even kept his arms tucked in before impact which imo is more important. To say that his head was the primary target is stretching it. There's a hundred hits a week like this and this doesn't stand out among the other ones.
