10/10 GDT: Coyotes 4 at Red Wings 2

As much as I hate tootoo, they really need a guy like that on the 3rd of 4th line. Who's gonna continuously chase down the opposition in the corner. We are just way to passive when it comes to forechecking, need to start banging and crashing people. Sigh... please come back Helm.

It's Franzen. I swear to god. I know it's easy to blame the new guy.

I don't think I've seen Franzen shoot the puck yet this season. If I was a 6-3, 220 lb winger, that could whip lasers from the hash marks, I'd be TAKING the puck there and firing bullets instead of playing on the outside all.friggin.game.

Don't forget, Franzen played with Datsyuk and Z alot last year and he sucked all over the place too.

Edit: Weiss got an OT winner by driving the net, and nearly scored last night on a similar play. I have yet to see Franzen do anything. Srsly. I'm not exagerating.

My fears is that Babs' comments about the 2nd line needing a change means Cleary getting a promotion. Drop Franzen to the 3rd, put Tatar in his place, Cleary on the 4th, & Sammy in the press box instead. And while we're at it, sit Smith or Q for Lashoff for a few games.

Thoughts.

1. Last night we were exposed by a brilliant, ballsy coach and a hungry, disciplined team. Tippett realized our blue line is actually garbage in its own zone, so he "pinch shifted" his entire team forward, putting our young, bumbling D under extreme pressure and duress, and, in turn, completely stunting our attack. I call this strategy "salting the earth." Kill the the ground, the soil, the ultimate foundation...and nothing will grow. It was incredible to see. We can only hope other teams don't try the same thing, because if they do, we're screwed.

2. Smith and Quincey may be the worst pairing in the league. One of them needs to sit for a game or two or three or four hundred. Brutal. Terrible. Garbage.

3. We have so many borderline useless fourth-line scrubs on this team. Get off your lazy ass, Holland, and do whatever it takes to get Nyquist back in this lineup ASAP. At the very least, we're sorely missing his speed.

4. Babs needs to get over his fear/hatred of kids. Play Tatar, let him run wild on a new Kids Line with Nyquist and Andersson.

5. Through four games we've played, like, 40 good minutes, if that. Wonderful.

1. They will and they should. There's no getting around that we're green on the back end, but the only way to fix that is with experience. The more they get tested now, the better they'll be at the end of the season. Well, either that or we'll know we need to acquire a steady vet on D for the postseason, I guess.

2. Seems like it is mostly Smith to me. He has been the worst D-Man thus far in my opinion. I'm not ready to sell Smith stock yet, but Quincey hasn't looked nearly as bad.

3 and 4, I'm starting to get on board with the youth movement. I definitely think Tatar should be playing. I don't care if a different guy sits for him every game. There are enough...we'll say 'grizzled veterans'... on this team that would probably be better off if they sat some games anyway. Plus, it's not like the current line combos or power play units are exactly working well enough that you wouldn't want to break them up. I'm afraid Nyquist playing will require more injuries, though. I'd also like to see Tootoo playing soon.... and I'm not a big Tootoo guy, but maybe he'll wake some people up.

5. Yeah.... I still feel optomistic that it will get better. At least we've only lost one game that we really should have won (on paper).

Doesn't take brilliance to see that. At the very least, all he had to do was watch footage of how the Blues & Jackets did this to the Wings last season.

I figured we wouldn't have to worry about that this year. We should have had the best 3rd line in the NHL, even better if Helm returned serviceable. But in turn, the only thing going through my mind is that i'm deeply regretting renewing my Gamecenter account to watch this washed up pile of s*** we currently call the Red Wings. This team is hardly worth watching right now. Brunner is doing good, Cleary is useless. Filppula is doing good, Sammy escaped a potential buyout by playing the injury card and has played like ass this year. Goose is wrecking the AHL again, Miller is going through the motions of being a bottom 6 guy and has brought nothing to the table. Tatar is sitting for scrubs. This year so far has been severely disappointing. Even Alfredsson had the worst game I've ever seen him play last game. He was horribad! If things don't change, I'll be calling Gamecenter to cancel my subscription and will not go anywhere near Detroit to see a game live, and worst of all, if I get to go to the Wings/Jets game 4 November, I will show up in a Jets jersey in protest of the complete garbage that the Wings are right now, when this should have been the year we finally get some young legs going in plave of s*** like Sammy, Cleary, Miller and Tuzzi.

This is my first go-around with Gamecenter and, yeah, I'm starting to kick myself.

In all honesty, though? I'm not worried. Just peeved.

Babs did say Franzen is supposed to be the second line's key piece, i.e. its success hinges on Franzen more than it does Weiss or Alfredsson (in theory).

I feel like one of Dr Rahmani's patients (pre laser surgery) could watch the video from last night's game and immediately punch a Franzen jersey. He destroyed every play.

Your newfound Franzen hate pleases me.

He is a lazy sack of crap who may score 30 goals but 25 of them will be scored in one game, and he needs to be packaged with a prospect and/or pick or whatever it takes to get a high-end defenseman with a sick first pass, and did I mention he's lazy?

For the record, Weiss got that OT winner because Franzen drove the net first. Srsly. I'm not exaggerating.

I'm just trying to shine my light. It's easy, like I said earlier, to blame Weiss and Alfie for that second line puke-fest. Especially when Filpulla and Brunner have started strong. But the problem with our secondary scoring should fall square on Franzen. He's the common link between this year and last year. After Z and Datsyuk, he should be the guy, and he hasn't been, and still isn't.

For the record, Weiss got that OT winner because Franzen drove the net first. Srsly. I'm not exaggerating.

You're right Doc. My bad. He did do one thing. He was skating towards the net, and was too lazy to stop. Any other great Mule moments so far that you care to point out? Or am I still (mostly) correct?

The way I remember it (and I could be remembering it wrong), Franzen got a shot off and then curled off to the left (which, to be fair, was probably him being mindful of his defensive responsibilities. Which I really can't complain about.) So: yes, Franzen did sort of "drive the net," but, at the end of the sequence, it was Weiss with the dirty nose. IMHO.

I was just pointing out it wasn't "All Weiss" on that play.

I hear you. You kind of started it though. Quouting me in that way at the end of your original post was smartassy. Or at least, I took it that way.

Anywho, I never said it was all Weiss, I was just pointing out to the Weiss bashers that, in my opinion, he's done more than the Mule. The reason I made my original comment was because people were ripping on Weiss and I think the real problem on ine #2 is Franzen.

Are you saying that Franzen's play isn't bad, is just sort of bad, is decent, is good, you love him? What?

I haven't been on here enough to see Weiss bashing. I think he has been good. Franzen has shown flashes of being good, but so far has not been good.

I made a comment last night about Franzen's first shift. He skated hard, took the play to the opponent and looked good. Then he played terribly from then on. Didn't make any sense.

The GDT is full of it.

IMO, "flashes" are all Frazen has left. I hope I'm wrong.

I don't see the point of two of the best centers in the league playing on the same line. Everyone of the top teams have two great centers on the top two lines where there isn't much between them. Put great players together they develop chemistry and do well I don't think it's a Zetterberg-Datsyuk chemistry thing.

Abdelkader-Datsyuk-Alfredsson

Weisse-Zetterberg-Franzen

bottom six is still a disaster but this makes more sense.

We have played one good period in 4 games against mostly terrible teams this should be a concerning start to say the least.

I think part of the point of signing Weiss was to retain the ability to keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the same line.

Both are better centers than wingers. The way Weisse plays so far looks like he'd be a better winger. Terrible in faceoffs too might I add. Nobody on that second line can carry the puck over the blue line.

The only way this team has the luxury to put two of the best centers in the league on the same line is if we signed a Kesler or Pavelski type.

If we break up Z and D, Weiss should center the third line, IMHO. That's not a knock against Weiss, I just like the depth it'd give us down the middle, especially if we ever get (the old) Helm back. I mean, think about it: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Helm/Andersson? Arguably the best middle in the league, at least in theory.

But I only want to see Z and D split up if it's very obviously not working for them and/or for the team.

Nyquist-Weisse-Tatar would be a deadly 3rd line that could win games for us.

Abdelkader-Datsyuk-Alfredsson

Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary

Nyquist-Weisse-Tatar

Tootoo-Andersson-Miller

We have all the tools right now even without Helm back. These lines are just so ass backwards it's retarded
